Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana-Jesenice highway, we take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and further towards Bohinjska Bistrica. From Bohinjska Bistrica, we continue right towards Ribčev Laz and Lake Bohinj. In the village of Polje, we turn left towards the village of Žlan. We drive through Žlan on the asphalted main road and at the end of the village another 300 m on a macadam road. We arrive at a smaller parking lot, where we leave our vehicle.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue further along the lower macadam path, which after a few meters turns into a footpath beside which stands the sign Črna prst. We follow the marked footpath to the first cart track, where we turn right. We continue the path to Rovt Repar and past the hunting cottage and observatory, where the cart track turns into a footpath, after which we descend into the hollow at the source of the Bistrica. We continue across the wooden bridge and then left along the cart track towards Bohinjska Bistrica. If after crossing the bridge we turn right, we come to the source of the Bistrica (approx. 25 m). At the junction of cart tracks, we head right (the left path leads to Bohinjska Bistrica) and then follow the unmarked path along the overgrown cart track uphill. The cart track turns sharply several times, which should not confuse us. After a longer walk, we come to a better, marked macadam road, where we head right. Soon the blazes direct us left uphill along a slightly wider footpath, which we follow to the mountain pasture Osredki. We must pay attention to the blazes, as they are poorly visible in places! From here onwards, we follow the less trodden steep marked path to the saddle in the sharp ridge of Kozji rog. Here the path ascends to the left and after a few minutes we are at the Dom Zorka Jelinčiča on Črna prst.

Along the route: Izvir Bistrice (600m), Osredki (1480m)

Discussion about the trip Žlan - Črna prst

We used the path for descent from Črna prst. In the upper part the path is well marked. It leads past the beautiful highland Osredki, where livestock grazes. After crossing the forest road the path becomes very poorly marked. It follows an overgrown cart track and suddenly ends. At least that's how it seemed to us, so we spent a lot of time breaking through steep forest and pathless terrain to the source of Bistrica. Luckily we heard the water. Along the stream the path leads to Bohinjska Bistrica, but it is poorly marked. We intended to descend to Žlan, but due to unmarked paths we ended up in Bohinjska Bistrica. I think a few signposts in the lower part of this path wouldn't be too expensive.

We also used the path for descent from Črna prst (we ascended to it from Bohinjska Bistrica via Orožnova koča). The crossing from the source of Bohinjska Bistrica to Bohinjska Bistrica made a nice conclusion to the path. If someone else goes in this direction, the path to the source might be easiest to find by following the marked path towards Žlan during descent until we notice ruins of some building under the road on the right (approx. 750 m asl). Shortly after, the path continues straight, the road descends to the building. We continue on the path for another approx. 15 meters of altitude and then look for a passage through the forest towards the meadow that shines to the right below us (approx. 60 m). We cross the meadow in the same direction as we came from the forest and at the hunting observation post in the middle of the meadow we catch the path (right) towards Bistrica or the source.
