Access to starting point:
a) We drive into Laško, and then at the traffic light intersection we drive in the direction of Spodnja Rečica. Further on, Laško ends and we arrive at Spodnja Rečica, and later also at Zgornja Rečica, but we continue driving. When the main road turns right towards Šmohor, we go slightly left onto a side road, along which there are signs for Brezno. For a short time, we continue driving through the valley, and then the road turns sharply to the left and crosses onto the northern slopes of Baba, through which we ascend diagonally past individual homesteads. When we return to the forest, we quickly reach the Zavrate saddle, where we park in a suitable place. At the starting point, there is the log cabin Brunarica pri knapu below Baba and one of the entrances to the former Barbara rov mine.
b) From the Hrastnik - Rimske Toplice road, we turn left (or right from the direction of Rimske Toplice) towards the settlements of Sedraž and Trnovo. At the next intersection, we go slightly left towards Brezno, and then we start noticeably ascending towards the Zavrate saddle. When we reach the mentioned saddle, we park in a suitable place.
Route description:
From the Zavrate saddle, we head to the eastern side (on the western side of the saddle, by the log cabin Brunarica pri knapu pod Babo, a path begins leading towards Baba and further to Kal and Mrzlica), where we initially walk on a rough road that quickly leads to a marked junction, where we choose the slightly left path, marked with signs for Govško brdo (slightly right for Govce).
We continue slightly left towards Govško brdo (slightly right for Govce) and proceed along a cart track that begins to climb more steeply, initially passing a few junctions where we follow the trail markers. Higher up, the cart track ends, and the path ascends steeply along and beside the western ridge of Govško brdo. The well-trodden path leads through the forest the entire way, with only the final ascent below the summit, where the forest thins on the right side, offering a partial view of the Posavsko hribovje.
At the summit, there are a few benches and an inscription box.
The description and pictures refer to the conditions in February 2025.

I'm interested in the condition, difficulty and marking of the hiking trail Laško - Govško brdo - Babe - Ostri vrh. Lp

Since I didn't get a reply today in the morning hours as part of a longer activity also the Laško - Govško brdo section and personal search for answers... Path condition excellent, signage appropriate and path difficulty easy. Initially some asphalt and macadam. Final ascent from the hunting lodge picturesque in beautiful natural setting. Definitely, if you're in Laško or vicinity or don't have a precise idea for an excursion yet I recommend. Distance to the summit of Govško brdo from Laško is 8 kilometers. Lp

A few meters below the summit a poorly marked path branches off to the right leading downhill ... to where?

Today a bit on my own to Govško brdo (that's what the locals call it). I stumbled upon a rarely visited path marked with faded markings that docepe2 is asking about. It's easier to follow on the ascent. The village Govce hasn't existed for a long time. It's under the ground because of the former mine, the path joins the "normal" one that leads to the former hunting hut at Govce. Today it's in private ownership.
