Access to starting point:
From Kamnik or Vransko we drive into the Tuhinjska Valley. Soon after the village Zgornji Tuhinj (from Vransko a little before) at the gas station to the left (from Vransko to the right) a road branches off towards the village Češnjice. Further, we drive through the village Češnjice on the road which soon after the village becomes macadam and above the village brings us to a smaller intersection, where we continue right in the direction of Menina planina. We then follow this road, which is ascending almost the entire time, to Biba planina, where we park on the parking lot by the road (the shelter on Biba planina is located a little above the road, 3 minutes of walking).
Route description:
From the parking lot below the shelter on Biba planina we continue on the road in the direction of the mountain hut Dom na Menini planini (the sign is in very bad condition). After a few minutes of walking we come to a marked intersection, where we continue on the right upper road in the direction of Oltarna peč and mountain hut Dom na Menini planini (by the signs there is also an inscription that we are entering a bear area - an old sign). The road then passes from the forest onto the extensive pastures of Menina planina. We then follow this mostly slightly ascending road to the spot where we leave the municipality of Kamnik (sign by the road). Only a few meters from the sign the blazes direct us onto a footpath that then runs parallel to the road. Further, we bypass the small lake Biba on the right side and then over the grazing fence we ascend to a forest road. We follow the road to the left, but only some 10 meters, then otherwise poorly visible blazes direct us onto a footpath which higher up rejoins the forest road. We follow this path, which only slightly ascends and later crosses the road a few more times, to the mountain hut.
From the starting point we can also ascend to the hut on Menina planina along the forest road, but the walking is unpleasant due to the dust (exceptions are rainy days).

and that bear sign,??? how seriously should one take it, especially if you're going with kids...

Are there still large "lumps of stones" on the road and is there a high probability of vehicle damage?

Hello, I'm interested if there's still any snow or if the path is bare, we would go on Saturday. lp

@petruša, check under Current conditions-Šavnice and everything will be clear. nasmeh

Snow starts at about 1000m altitude and in the upper part there is 50-60cm, sometimes more. How is the passability of the path from the Tuhinj direction I don't know, from the Lipa direction there are no problems.

Is the road still so torn up or is there a huge amount of chunky rocks on it?

The road was normally drivable a few days ago. Lp

Drivable with passenger car or jeep? Is there still any snow on the path?

There is of course no snow up to Biba and the road is solid, between Biba and Dom na Menini planini there are a couple of smaller snow patches, which probably won't be there soon. One person made it to the Dom today with a passenger car anyway. From the Zadrečko side the road is not yet drivable. Otherwise, the planina is mostly snow-free.

The road is drivable with a passenger car, I drove it normally with a fairly low car. I'm talking about the road from Tuhinj (left or right at the Petrol gas station) to the end of the asphalt and then a few km of gravel. Due to snow I parked 10 min below Biba, but that was 3 weeks ago, now there is 100% no snow anymore. I don't know how it is further from Biba. Regards

Thanks for the answers. About 3 years ago we went along the path from Kamnik and the gravel section was in a lumpy condition, almost impassable, at that time I thought I had ruined the undercarriage. Based on what's written, we will tackle the venture cautiously.

The goulash is worth praising! Otherwise a great walk, which we can extend to jespe (sinkhole), past the artificial pond, past hochštanta, through the forest and back to the hut. B-)

How far can one drive by car in these conditions?
geppo19. 02. 2016
We're going with colleagues on Sunday. We've chosen the bus stop in Gornjem Gradu as the starting point.
The parking lot will surely be cleared, and probably some track already trodden towards the hut.velik nasmeh

Is it possible to reach the starting point by bus?

Hi. Do you perhaps know what the road to Biba planina is like right now?
rajko002819. 01. 2020
Road ok - plenty of bear tracks everywhere - from older to completely fresh.
modrook1214. 06. 2020
Today along this trail to the hut and further to Vivodnik. At the very beginning you have to be quite attentive to the markings. Otherwise a pleasant trail. Friendly staff in the hut. Around the hut and further toward Vivodnik full of cows nasmeh

Hi. Does anyone know how the current drivability of the road to the starting point is? Thanks!

Today on the holiday I was at Menina planina for the first time. Just want to alert the trail sign markers about their poor condition and that I even missed the path once.

No hard feelings and best regards to all hikers.
