Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, drive over Vršič Pass towards Bovec or vice versa, but only to the 50th hairpin turn of the Vršič or Russian road (near the village of Trenta). Here, turn onto the side road, along which we park after a few hundred meters at the parking lot by the road.
Route description:
From the paid parking lot in the Zadnjica valley, continue on the marked path, initially along the road towards Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih, Razor, Stenar, Križ, Bovški Gamsovec, Luknja, Triglav, Koča na Doliču and Kanjavec. The path first leads past some houses or cottages and after about 15 minutes of walking brings us to a marked junction, where there used to be free parking, but now parking is prohibited here.
Continue along the slightly right lower road towards Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih, Koča na Doliču, Luknja and other nearby goals (left Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and other goals above Kriški podi and the lower station of the cargo cableway to Kriški podi), where the gentle road continues through scenic meadows, higher through the forest. Just before the end of the forest road at the Planja junction or before the valley head at the section called Utro, a marked path branches right towards Prehodavci.
Continue straight on the road, which soon turns into a footpath or old military mule track, along which we mostly ascend moderately on gradually steeper slopes. Still in the forest, the climbing path via Komar branches right, we continue on the mule track, which ascends in numerous hairpins, and due to steep slopes above, parts of the path are exposed to falling rocks.
The fairly scenic path brings us at about 1500 m elevation to the next junction, where the path to Koča na Doliču branches right, straight continues the path towards Luknja, Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and Triglav via Plemenice.
Continue right towards Koča na Doliču and continue ascending on the mule track (mule track also leads towards Luknja).
Further mostly moderate ascent on the mule track, which leads over steep and occasionally exposed precipitous slopes. Since the path is wide and well routed it is not technically demanding, but exposed to falling rocks and due to occasional deep views mostly not suitable for vertiginous hikers. The path occasionally makes some hairpins, otherwise mostly ascends traversely to the right, gradually approaching the mighty wall of Kanjavec.
Higher, the climbing path from Zadnjica via Komar joins from the right, a bit further right branches the path of Mira Marko Debelak (path over Kanjavčeve police). The increasingly scenic path higher makes some more hairpins and brings us to a junction a few minutes before Koča na Doliču.
Continue left towards Triglav (straight Koča na Doliču), just a little further the path past Koča na Doliču joins from the right.
Here we also go left on the path and continue for some time on the mule track, which leads north and ascends quite steeply. Higher the path flattens and brings us to Sedlo (2305 m), where it turns slightly left.
Follows some easy walking with beautiful view of Triglav and surrounding peaks, but caution is needed due to high-alpine karst terrain to avoid falling into a hole or injuring a leg on scree.
The path ahead starts ascending again, left branches the first unmarked path to Triglavska vojašnica Viktorja Emanuela III. (sometimes wrongly called Morbegna), we continue a bit longer on the marked path and head to the barracks at the next fork near the junction where we meet the path from Plemenice.
Here go left and via unmarked trail reach Triglavska vojašnica Viktorja Emanuela III. in a few minutes.
Izhodišče - Na placu 0:15, Na placu - Utro 1:00, Utro - odcep za Komar 0:15, odcep za Komar - Pod Skokom 1:10, Pod Skokom - Pod steno 1:25, Pod steno - razpotje pred Kočo na Doliču 0:55, razpotje pred Kočo na Doliču - Sedlo 0:30, Sedlo - razpotje Zaplanja 0:50, razpotje Zaplanja - vojašnica Viktorja Emanuela III. 0:10.

Discussion about the trip Zadnjica - Triglavska vojašnica Viktorja Emanuela III. (via Dolič)

for all know-it-alls, look at today's stage of the cycling race in Italy and convince yourselves that there is no fortress named after any Morbegna, but Morbegno (in nominative: MORBEGNO)
BT8827. 05. 2011
But what, they'll shoot a movievelik nasmeh
Brezpotnik6. 11. 2011
When I read the story about Morbegni in one of the latest mountaineering newsletters, you have to get angry.... As soon as it is safe enough, I will head to it, while it is still visible...jezen

Sad, but true! The plot and building are owned by the Municipality of Bovec! How can such devastation be allowed. The former Italian barracks could serve as a shelter for many and would stand for many more years if it weren't destroyed by a person who belongs to its nearest institution! Why doesn't the Municipality of Bovec take action and protect its property, or what is left of it, and send that person through a short procedure to an environment suitable for him? Something could also be done in Ljubljana to protect this historically and extremely important object for mountaineers or hikers.
heinz6. 11. 2011
strong misconception.. no point in repeating anything..
BOSTJAN346. 11. 2011
I also think that it could serve as a mountain station, since in summer months there is always a shortage of beds.
korl9. 11. 2011
If the object stands in the Bovec municipality, the local locals should take action. But we know how stepmotherly the attitude of administrative units is towards these matters.
I'm surprised that Mr. Zlodej, who is certainly very competent and a great or the best expert, hasn't advocated more concretely for it. Just remembering how successfully he intervened some time ago against the relocation of the Aljaž Tower and preserved it for posterity, there's no devilry that he wouldn't succeed with a similarly designed resonant action also in preserving this historical object.
B29. 11. 2011
Yes, checked in the PISO program it says:
Parcel no.: 445/9, ZKV no.: 65
Functional building 18 sq. meters
Ruined building 316 sq. meters
Unproductive 5630 sq. meters
Owner: Municipality of Bovec, Trg Golobarskih žrtev 8, 5230 Bovec
Short and to the point! I think it's now clear who should take action and care for their property! And here is Triglav National Park! Please??? Right under the summit of Triglav, such devastation is allowed!
slainter10. 11. 2011
This is how Morbegna looked on September 30th this year. Obviously they mined it. It's known here that historical heritage is in many people's way.

MajaO reminded me again within the topic "Reports on mountains, hills, ..." of Lojz. Of his way of life. And of his bivouacs; all of them, not just the one near Morbegna. I want to say that one cannot help but admire in some intimate way his peculiarities and unique creativity. I admit, it has always been great fun for me to observe his building skills and inventiveness, as well as reading his notes in the logbooks. All this reminded me most of old childhood games when we built treehouses and thus retreated "far away" from the adult world ... There it was safe and nice, special rules applied ... Those treehouses, after we children childishly forgot about them, gradually rotted away. Something similar happens to some of Lojz's creations ...

Everything I've written so far does not mean that this unique building activity of his is in principle socially acceptable. No! But it is not overly disturbing or harmful either, as long as it is not massive, i.e., as long as a few hundred "Lojzes" do not appear who will populate our mountains with arbitrarily built "weekend cabins" ... the valleys are already populated (different "Lojzes") ... many summits have been marked by others again ...

To Morbegna. The only really controversial and at first glance harmful thing that our man allegedly (?) tackled and allegedly (?) does not even deny, is the "clearing of the view" in front of his high-altitude dwelling at ZTP. Since I know that Lojz has sincere and principled mountaineering friends, I have always expected in the development of these and similar topics that they would allow his voice on this forum too. Not a priori defense that does not allow doubts and does not permit questions. An honest voice, in accordance with the principles by which Lojz lives.
panda12. 11. 2011
What if they sent a building inspector up there to find out what's going on? Maybe it's illegal construction? As far as I know the TNP law, what's happening at Morbegna is in contradiction to that law. Wardens are strict about parking in TNP, but up here nothing is done. I have nothing against Lojz and the like, but aren't we all equal before the law? Judge for yourselves. LP
heinz12. 11. 2011
Amid all these mentions of illegal construction, demolition etc., one should ask which Lojz is demolishing former guardhouses in the Karawanks, e.g. at Sečah, (which has significantly collapsed just in the last year), at Vošca, in Rovtah, or already just at Obranca.. Even more: who demolishes old remains of mountain and high-alpine buildings around the world? Where do we find so many sinful Lojzes?
Otherwise, I suggest you visit Lojz and ask him personally about it..
merkur12. 11. 2011
Heinz, it seems like you want to blame exclusively the gentleman who works slowly, reliably, ... and is named Čas for all demolitions of high-alpine buildings around the world and also here with us. Probably I don't understand you correctly?! Because, if this gentleman is also guilty in the case of Morbegna, then he has made a special effort there in the last few years.

Photographs of the fortress on the right side of the post are telling

Anyway, Lojz perhaps only has the misfortune that he fenced off a piece of "no man's" world for himself (!) next to the former military barracks, which is also on the lively Triglav path. That's why more people noticed him than otherwise and that's why he became an object of public interest and consequently media. And some friend, as often happens, basked a bit in the rays of his fame incidentally.

I don't know if Lojz would be particularly happy if passers-by came asking him about the ruins in front of his "home" doorstep? But maybe I'm wrong and in this case it's "his voice"? But I'm almost sure that someone who browses (and perhaps writes on) this forum has already asked him something like that. Somewhere above in this thread I noticed a meaningful sentence: "strong misconception.. no point in repeating anything.." from which one can conclude that the author is precisely informed about everything, but everything has already been said anyway. Has it? Where?
joža x12. 11. 2011
Why do you care so much about that Italian ruin, isn't there already enough tourism in TNP, in my opinion way too much, I'm for demolishing all P.D. around Triglav, remove all the iron from IT, instead of tourists from all over the world sh*tting, p*ssing, f*cking on our national symbol.
CarpeDiem24712. 11. 2011
Joža x, you should advise the next prime minister to appoint you as Minister of Tourism, it promises a fairytale boom of this sector in our little country, really hats off for such thinking! zmeden

Hi, I'm reporting a correction for the Morbegna entry (https://www.hribi.net/gora/morbegna/1/105)
It has been known for some time that between the 1st and 2nd World Wars near the summit of Glava v Zaplanji (2556 m) there were two Italian facilities:
1/ SW of Glava v Zaplanji stood a large high-mountain barracks built of stone. Its remains are still visible today. Its real name is Triglavska vojašnica Viktorja Emanuela III. (Ital. Caserma Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele III di Monte Tricorno). It was built in 1933/34.
2/ NE of Glava v Zaplanji once stood a small wooden military shelter (completely collapsed long ago). It was built in 1919. It was called Morbegna. This shelter "cooked up" a decades-long confusion about the names.

The truth about Morbegna

In short, the point on hribi.net must be named Triglavska vojašnica Viktorja Emanuela III., not Morbegna! Please correct it nasmeh best regards p
