Access to starting point:
From the old road Zagreb - Reka / Rijeka, in the town Gornje Jelenje we turn right towards the National Park Risnjak. After 2 km we come to a crossroads for the road to Platak. We continue right and follow the direction to the National Park Risnjak, Vilje, Lazac. At the 6th km from Gornje Jelenje we turn right towards Vilje. Here we can leave the cars, and with off-road vehicles we can also go 800 meters to Vilje (1184 meters). Here begins the shortest and easiest ascent to Risnjak, as well as the closest access by car.
Route description:
On a marked mule track through prominent forest flora, we reach the mountain hut in 45 minutes, then continue to the summit in another 15 minutes, partly through dwarf pines and along a beautiful secured rocky path.
In good weather, the summit offers a stunning view, extending north to the Julian and Kamnik Alps, west to the island of Krk and Učka, east to Sljeme above Zagreb, and south to Bjelolasica, Klek, ….

I'm interested in the snow conditions on Veliki Risnjak and if the hut is/will be open over Easter holidays (Monday). Thanks for any info! Regards

This is a camera from Platak, and towards Risnjak there is even more snow, especially in the forest, muddy and soaked. Forest roads are surely impassable from the Platak direction, and probably also from the Gornje jelenje or Crni Lug direction. The hut almost certainly doesn't operate, never before May 1st, so not this winter either. In the hut you have a winter room with a few beds available ... lp
