Access to starting point:
The Valbonë Valley is located in the difficult-to-access northeastern part of Albania. The easiest way to reach it from the west is via a long, several-hour drive on a very winding and locally poor road from Skadra through the places Pukë and Bajram Curri. Part of the route can be done by ferry on Lake Komani (in this case, we do not go through Pukë).
In the Valbonë Valley there is the eponymous village. The starting point for the ascent is in the left bend shortly after the Bujtina hotel. At the beginning of the trail is a large wooden sign indicating the start of the trail to the summit of Maja e Rosit. Park by the road.
Route description:
From the sign that marks the path to the summit of Maja e Rosit, we head across the wide scree of the torrent bed. Improvised bridges ease the crossing. On the other side of the stream we pick up the ascending path. In a moderate ascent heading north-west, we reach the hamlet Kukaj. To here 0:45.
Here we leave the path leading further up the valley to the summit of Maja e Rosit and head steeper right (north-east) uphill, the junction is not properly marked. At first the path goes through open terrain, soon we are in the forest. The path zigzags steeply through the forest, views of the Valbonë Valley become increasingly impressive. In the last couple of minutes the terrain opens and with a slight traverse to the right we reach the viewpoint.
