Zgornja postaja gondole Mölltaler Gletscher - Schareck

Access to starting point:
From Beljak (Villach) we drive through Spittal on the Drau to Flattach. A little after that settlement, we notice a sign for Innerfragant or Mölltaler Gletscherbahn, where we turn right. We follow the signs for Mölltaler Gletscherbahn, where we park at the bottom station of the cableway.

Route description:
At first, we ride the funicular to the middle cableway station (2234 meters), then take the gondola to the upper station (2800 meters). At the exit from the building, signposts direct us right towards Schareck (path number 133). We continue along the edge of the ski slope steeply towards the saddle; signs for the mountain path are sparse and poorly visible. If we don’t want to walk on the snowfield, we can veer slightly right onto pathless terrain, where in summer we walk mostly on rocks (depending on the snow cover’s height). When we reach the saddle at the top of the ski slope, we find a sign for the Schareck peak, directing us left onto the ridge (to the right of the saddle lies the neighboring Baumbachspitze peak).
We continue along the ridge, where we soon spot the first fixed safety gear. We proceed towards the summit, but the fixed safety gear ends at the top of the ridge. We must cross approximately 20 meters of unsecured ridge, which is precipitous on both sides. We reach the summit after a few minutes of further walking.
