Access to starting point:
Through the Ljubelj tunnel we drive almost to the village Podljubelj/Unterloibl on the Austrian side. A little before the village, a wooden bridge stretches above the road with a large sign "Tscheppaschlucht", and on the left we see a path leading from the parking lot. The path is one-way, so we drive another 100 m ahead and turn left onto the asphalted parking lot, which is built on three levels, so there are no problems with parking.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we head onto a well-marked path, on which we first cross the Ljubelj road over the wooden bridge that we saw from the road. The path first leads us a little downwards; after a few minutes of walking, we arrive at the adrenaline park, then a wide track in a barely noticeable ascent leads along the stream Loiblbach (on the map Ljubeljska Borovnica) to "Goldenes Bruendel", where we have to pay the contribution for path maintenance (6.50 €, children, seniors, groups 4.50 €). To here we walk approx. 20 minutes and here the gorge actually just begins.
The path ahead is routed quite boldly, the track is mostly narrow, equipped with numerous stairs and bridges, but it is excellently made and secured (wooden and metal stairs, railing, in places next to the railing on one side of the track there is also an additional steel cable on the other side for help when ascending some very steep stairs. After approximately an hour of walking from the ticket office we come to a path junction, where we have several options: To the left along the Ljubeljski potok stream into Loibltal (Brodi) to the bus stop at the inn Deutscher Peter, or right to Hudičev most - an interesting suspension bridge (Teufelsbruecke) and the waterfall "Tschauko" (on the map "slap Šum"). From the waterfall you can continue the path to Slovenji Plajberk/Windisch Bleiberg or into the valley Poden/Bodental, our path leads to the large parking lot at the inn Deutscher Peter in Loibltal. At the parking lot at the inn we wait for the bus, which takes us back to the starting point (the bus runs once per hour, from Deutscher Peter it runs every time 10 minutes to the hour). The transport is free, as the gorge entrance ticket includes the bus transport as well. If you choose Slovenji Plajberk or Poden as the starting point, you can also take the bus back to the starting point.
The path is not suitable for very small children, otherwise despite being routed quite "airily", it is nowhere exposed, as it is excellently secured. Suitable footwear is of course hiking boots, even with stronger sports shoes you can walk completely safely. On approximately half of the path you can use hiking poles, which you stow away at the beginning of the narrow, steep stairs, as they would be more of a hindrance than a help on the rest of the path.

The gorge is worth a visit. Wonderful roaring of water rushing its way, numerous waterfalls are a real feast for the eyes. Pleasant walk.

Yesterday we visited the gorge, which is really worth seeing.Since we were too early, we returned to the starting point on foot through the gorge, and enjoyed the sound of water once again. The bus only runs from 13h onwards. The price has also risen by 1 euro.To everyone who will head to the gorge, I wish a safe journey.

The junction to the parking lot is no longer one-way, right at the bridge over the road turn left to the parking lot. Wonderful excursion, especially for hot days, as it's fresh in the gorge and surprisingly there was a lot of water despite the long dry period.

Maintenance fee is now 8.50€, groups of 15 persons €7.50, pensioners, students €6.50, children 15 years €5.50, school groups €4.50. Parking: €2.00. KärntenCard helps a lot (free entry). Definitely worth it. We needed 1:20 hours to Hudičev most, then returned as we were 3 hours too early for the bus. There was still a lot of water, it had rained the previous night. Beautiful, especially not too strenuous and safe.

7.8.- Čepa Gorge is a pleasant ramble. Full of stairs, little bridges and natural paths in the shade of greenery. The path is a bit airy but safe, and the babbling of the stream adds even more charm. Parking is paid on exit, entrance fee is 8 €. Bus transport is still included in the entrance fee price. https://jelenkamenmajdag.blogspot.com/2024/08/soteska-cepa.html
