Tonkina koča na Vršiču - Vršič vrh

Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, on the road which leads over the Vršič pass, we drive towards Bovec or vice versa. Between the 16th and 17th hairpin turns of the Vršič road, we will arrive at Tonkina koča, near which we park on the parking lot by the road.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we first walk to Tonkina koča, and from there continue on the old road which leads towards Poštarski dom na Vršiču. On a fairly gentle road, from which occasionally a nice view opens up towards Špik and surrounding mountains, we at first mostly walk through the forest. At the first left hairpin turn, an unmarked footpath branches off to the right towards Erjavčeva koča na Vršiču, and we continue on the old road or wider mule track. Higher up, a marked path from Erjavčeva koča also joins from the right, and more and more beautiful views open up on surrounding mountains and walls. On one of the hairpin turns, the path continues straight ahead towards Prisojnik (path through Prednje Prisojnikovo okno), and then in a few more hairpin turns we reach the level area before Poštarski dom na Vršiču. From here follows only a short walk and the path brings us to Poštarski dom.
At Poštarski dom we notice signs for Vršič, which direct us a little to the right onto a well-visible footpath which gradually passes into a belt of dwarf pines. Here the path starts to ascend more steeply and after a few minutes of ascent over a slope which is partly overgrown with dwarf pines brings us to the 1737 m high peak.
