Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the Lesce exit and follow the road ahead in the direction of Žirovnica and Jesenice. After a few kilometers of driving, we will arrive at a crossroads, where a road branches off to the right to Žirovnica (from the direction of Jesenice, left). Further, we drive on a somewhat narrower road, which we follow at the crossroads in the direction of Valvasorjev dom and Završnica. The road then flattens and brings us to a crossroads, where the road towards Valvasorjev dom branches off to the left, and we continue straight on the initially still asphalted road. The road soon becomes macadam, and we follow it to a parking lot near Tinčkova koča. The road in the upper part is often in quite bad condition.
Route description:
At the beginning of the parking lot, blazes point us to the left into the forest. After a few meters, we come to a crossing where the unmarked path to Stol branches off to the right (via Zagon). We continue left on the marked path and further mostly in a gentle ascent through the forest cross fairly steep slopes, which in snow can be very dangerous for slipping. Later, the path brings us to a cart track where we continue left. After a short descent along the cart track, we come again to a crossing where blazes from the cart track point us to the right into the forest. The slope further on is no longer so steep and there follow a few shorter ascents and descents. The path then turns a little to the right and crosses forest cart tracks a few times. Such a path then brings us out of the forest where we join a wide cart track. Signposts direct us onto the cart track along which we soon reach the mountain pasture Zabreška planina.
From the mountain pasture, we continue on the cart track which again brings us into the forest. After a short descent through the forest we get to the next mountain pasture, this time Žirovniška planina, where there is an unmarked crossing. We head slightly right and the path past the shepherd huts brings us into the forest, where we also join the Žirovniška pot to Stol. At the crossing, we continue left and in a gentle descent through the forest soon reach the mountain hut Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom.

Really nice path to Valvasorjev dom. We walked it this April, when we went on a circular trip from in front of Lake Završnica through the Završnica valley to Tinčkova koča, along the path described here to Valvasorjev dom and back to the lake. Judging by the published photos, we only went from Žirovniška planina to Valvasor along a somewhat lower (also marked) route that ended on the road right before the hut. More about our trip here.
