Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and further towards Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue driving towards Lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where you reach a junction, continuing right towards Stara Fužina. In Stara Fužina, at the junction by the chapel, turn sharply left onto the ascending road towards planina Blato, planina Vogar and Voje valley. The road then leads to the toll collection point, where we park in the organized paid parking lot.
Route description:
At the beginning of the parking lot, signs for the Mostnica gorges and waterfall direct us right onto a wide path, along which we arrive at Hudičev most in a few minutes. Continue straight (right over the Uskovnica bridge via planina Blatce and Stara Fužina), a little further, at the information board for Mostnica gorges go slightly right. At the next junction go slightly right again (left Vogar, also possible to Voje), then arrive at the place where they collect the fee for path maintenance through Mostnica gorges (adult entrance fee was 3 eur in June 2018).
At the mentioned place the path forks, we choose the left or right path. Both paths continue near the gorges (near the right path there is a side path to view the elephant, a natural feature), later they merge into one path, along which we ascend to the gravel road. Follow the road right, along it we quickly arrive at Planinska koča na Vojah.
Continue along the road that continues through Voje valley, we follow the signs for slap Mostnice. A little further the road forks, we can continue left along the slightly shorter road with signs for Velo polje, or right along the few minutes longer path that leads past slap Mostnice.
Near the waterfall, at the head of Voje valley both paths merge, we follow the marked path towards Triglav and Vodnikov dom na Velem polju.
The fairly wide path further enters dense forest and ascends above a waterfall which we can partially see under the path, then the path turns left and ascends in a few switchbacks towards the west, leading us along relatively steep slopes. At about 1150 meters elevation the path levels out, a little further it takes us out of the forest to planina Spodnja Grintovica, where there is a water trough open only in summer months.
At the beginning of the planina a path branches left towards planina Zgornja Grintovica and planina Krstenica, we continue straight and on the upper part of the planina re-enter the forest, the path further is narrower and no longer resembles a mulatjera. Follows a steeper ascent along the forested slopes of Tisovec, a side ridge of Stogov ridge, when higher the path crosses to the northern slopes of the mentioned hill it levels out and enters the indistinct valley Jurjevčeva vrtača.
Here, at the beginning of the valley a fairly inconspicuous trail branches right downwards towards former planina Vrtača.
Continue along the marked path leading us through gradually sparser forest, higher the path turns right and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to a less marked junction at the area called Razorje, from which we continue slightly left (right marked path to Vodnikov dom na Velem polju) along the path that completely levels out and brings us in a few minutes to the seasonal lake near planina pod Mišelj vrhom.
Bypass the small lake on the right side, then on a small pass reach the marked path planina pod Mišelj vrhom - Velo polje.
Here go left (right Velo polje) and quickly arrive at planina pod Mišelj vrhom.

Discussion about the trip Stara Fužina - Planina pod Mišelj vrhom
Lj27. 09. 2010
Can someone tell me when the drying pond on Planina pod Mišelj vrhom fills with water - does it depend on rain, or does it have some other "biorhythm"?
čeveljc22. 10. 2012
Today I was heading to the lake below Mišelj Vrh. First I went to the Mostnica waterfall, then on the way back I couldn't find the junction to the right towards Veliko polje. Since I was there for the first time, and there are no signs or markers to the right (?), I went back quite a bit to the junction where the path to Veliko polje is marked. I lost some precious time and was then too late. I managed to reach Jurjevec's pasture, then had to return. I think I didn't miss much to the lake, so I'd like to ask those who know this area - how much walking is there still from the pasture to the lake and is the lake even there this year given the summer drought. And a nice challenge remains for next year.
