Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Kranj - East and follow the road ahead in the direction of Jezersko. Only a few kilometers after the turn-off for Preddvor we will notice a transformer on the right side of the road and by it a parking lot, where we park. Here are also signposts for the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik.
Route description:
From the parking lot at first we carefully cross the road, and then we go on a footpath in the direction of the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik. A wide path lightly ascends to the homestead Polajnar, where we step on the road which we follow to the right.
The road just after the house steeply ascends, which a little higher loses an asphalt covering. Further, the road flattens and turns a little towards the left, where it gets very close to the stream Čemšeniški potok. Even a little further, we cross the mentioned stream and right after it we come to the marked crossroad, where we continue on the left road in the direction of the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik. The road then again starts ascending steeper and in less than 30 minutes of additional walking brings us to the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik.

yes, it is open. Yesterday I was up there and the friendly caretakers told me that the season starts. It's a nice and easy trip for families with small children.
jozca5621. 01. 2011
The hut is open. They have a very varied food offer, from hunter's stew, buckwheat dumplings with cracklings, roe deer goulash, bread dumplings, jota with sausage or dried meat, pehtranova potica or apple strudel.

You can call tel. no. 031640972

Today I took a pleasant walk to Čemšenik hut for a change. On the way, the babbling of the Čemšenik stream pleasantly caresses my son and me. Soon we're at the hut. Followed by good košutnik and still warm pehtranova potica. They also offer roe deer goulash, buckwheat žganci and more. The keepers are very friendly. Near the hut, lots of golden apple-of-the-sun - our native lily. Signposts invite further to Baba, Javorov vrh, Kališće... On the way back, we descend to the bed of the Čemšenik stream - nice!

Nice stroll to Dom Čemšenik for young families or those with less fitness. Shade for summer heat. Of course from there you can go higher too... unexposed tours.

Friendly caretakers and good food.
Lisica21. 11. 2011
Very nice, I recommend extending the trip to Baba and further along the ridge to Potoška gora and Javorov vrh, then return to Čemšenik via another path - circular route. Beautiful views from the top of the ridge.
Friendly caretakers, good drinks and food.
katty21. 11. 2011
@Lisica, can you tell me exactly where to go to Baba? I had no idea there was a peak called Baba around here. They say it's about 1200 meters high, so suitable for a Sunday trip, or quickly in the afternoon.
Thanks for the info.
skalar5022. 11. 2011
@katty, just past Dom Čemšenik.
Then upwards from there (signpost) on the marked path or immediately after the Dom to the left on the unmarked but well visible trail. Then back circularly, which in practice means from the top of Baba a bit further along the ridge then right to the marked path and down.
Personally I prefer the left circular variant...but as they say, every eye has its own....
Usually soon trodden even in snow.
katty22. 11. 2011
@skalar50, thanks for the information. I only heard about unmarked paths, so I wasn't paying attention while listeningeek. How long to the top? And how much more to extend the path to Potoška gora or to Javorov vrh? Maybe up again on Sunday. If not earliermežikanje.
naveza7. 02. 2012
In the hut at Čemšenik, they delight me most with cheese struklji, mmmmmmmm, which go perfectly with wild sorrel soup. To burn off the calories, hurry up the circular path to Baba, and on the way back, have tea from rose hips that the hut keeper picks herself. Angelica also comes in handy these cold days nasmeh
Enjoy!
skalar5010. 02. 2012
Quite pleasantly white. A bit more careful maybe only at the bottom - on the asphalt ice and then through fresh dry snow.
To the Hut (open on weekends) enjoyable (even fully family) walk, but if going further (to Baba for example) then a little attention below the summit, where it's wind-blown.
velkavrh9. 05. 2012
07.05.2012 went for an evening walk to Čemšenik. You can really go up anytime. On weekends the hut is open and they serve excellently. Back I always go through the gorge of the Čemšenik stream, which ends at the bridge-outflow of the Čemšenik stream into the Kokra river. Here under the overhang there is a really pleasant rest spot arranged - commendable.
jozca5613. 08. 2012
On Wednesday the hut is open from 7 to 18. They have sour milk besides other goodies. Welcome! For all info call 031640972nasmeh

During our visit to the Čemšenik hut we were pleasantly surprised. Extremely hospitable caretakers serving excellent food. And on top "košutnik". All praise and keep it up.nasmehnasmeh

This morning on a pleasant walk to Čemšenik. Back through the gorge of the Čemšenik stream - nice - I recommend!
Lisica8. 09. 2013
I recommend a circular tour from Dom Čemšenik to Baba, then to Potoška gora and Javorov vrh and return to Čemšenik along the marked path. Super nice. Today a roe deer greeted me a bit above the Dom, and on the way back a deer too. nasmeh
