Access to starting point:
We drive on the expressway from Razdrto towards Nova Gorica or vice versa and take the Ajdovščina exit. Then at the intersection (first traffic light) we continue straight in the direction of Cola and Idrija. At the second traffic light we turn right, again in the direction of Cola, and follow the road for only a few dozen meters to the spot where we cross the Hubelj river. Immediately after the bridge we turn left in the direction of the Hubelj spring (by the road we notice tourist signs). We follow this road to the parking lot at the Hubelj spring.
Route description:
Near the parking lot we notice the start of the path to Otliško okno. The path first ascends the stairs and then enters the forest, where it moderately ascends for some time. The path then slightly descends and takes us to a panoramic slope from where a nice view opens towards the slopes of Čavna. The path then enters the forest and quickly brings us to a birdhouse next to which we notice a thermometer. Just a few meters ahead there is a pleasant bench by the path. Ahead the path starts to ascend and takes us past the spot where the story of the origin of Otliško okno is written. The path then becomes steeper and steeper and soon brings us to rocky slopes. Step by step the path becomes more panoramic and varied. A little higher the path brings us below Otliško okno, which we already see on the right side. Just a little further we notice the sign for Malo Otliško okno. Malo okno is only 10 m from the path and is worth seeing. Ahead the path turns into an indistinct gully in the middle of which we notice a nativity scene at Christmas time. At the top of the gully we reach a chapel with a logbook and stamp. Here we continue right towards the window, which is another five minutes away. Just before the window a path branches off to the left to the stone snail, which is only a good minute from the path. From the snail we return to the path we left and in a few dozen steps reach the information boards at Otliško okno. From the boards we can descend to the window from which a nice view opens onto Vipava valley.
From the window we continue along the path towards Sinji vrh. Ahead the path quickly emerges from the forest and takes us to panoramic slopes along which we ascend by the edge of the cliffs in the southeast direction. After about 10 minutes of walking from the window the path forks into two parts. At the spot where the grazing fence makes a sharp left turn we leave the wide path and head right onto a worse but marked path that brings us to the summit after five minutes of ascent (the path is marked but the blazes are rare and poorly visible).
From the summit the path descends to a small saddle where we rejoin the path that bypasses Navrše. Ahead the path crosses a strip of forest and a bit further brings us to a pleasant viewpoint where the path via Stara baba joins. Here at the electricity poles the blazes for Sinji vrh direct us left onto a cart track that first slightly ascends and then gradually descends. When the path ascends again we step onto the road where we continue left uphill (to the right the road ends at the last house in the village). After a few minutes of walking along the road we reach an intersection where we continue right and then after a few meters right again. The road, which ahead ascends a bit more steeply, takes us higher to another intersection where we again continue right. This is followed by another 700 m of walking along the road to the Sinji vrh pension. Here the road ends and we continue along an unmarked path to Sinji vrh, which we reach in three minutes. Orientation in the last section is not difficult.

Discussion about the trip Izvir Hublja - Sinji vrh (via Otliško okno)

Does anyone know how this stone snail was formed and why. I plan to do this route on Friday, just curious. MIMI
Gost6. 02. 2008
My unverified information is that some painter (I don't remember the name) made it as his diploma work? I'm also interested if it's true, I hope one of the locals will provide detailed information.zadrega Best, Lj

"Polž" is the idea and work of architect Damjan Popelar, who in his artistic work (very simplified) tries to connect nature and culture. Besides the mentioned polž, among his more notable projects are "woven willows" and the pyramid-tree project, visible from the Dolenjska motorway near the Bič exit. He always carries out his projects with the help and especially the engagement of locals. You can ask him more at damjanpopelar@yahoo.com. In my opinion he will gladly reply to you. I hope you will be as enthusiastic about the "polž" as I was.

Nice hiking trail and wonderful view of the Vipava Valley. At Sinji vrh one could see up to Gorenjska, Storžič, Kočna,... Nice mountain greeting.nasmeh

Thanks for the information. I walked the path past Otliška okna to Sinji vrh on Friday, 08.02.2008. Really nice, interesting, educational and just right challenging path. It must be especially beautiful when everything blooms. Best regards to all. MIMI

Interesting hike. Only walking on asphalt wasn't really to my likingzavijanje z očmi

At the start of the path there's a sign 'Sinji Vrh 1 h 30 min.', which is not true. To the summit you really need 2 hours of normal walking.nasmeh

How far is it to Otliško okno? An hour and a half?
furioso18. 03. 2009
No, from Izvir Hublja to Otliško okno it says 1h 15min but 1h is more than enough, then it's another 0.5h for sure or more,..not steep anymore.

Today I went to the window, then I thought of going to Sinji vrh too, but on the meadow (pasture) it almost blew me away. I couldn't go forward or back. Gale wind that hits you. I had to just stand calmly and after careful consideration I told myself that Sinji vrh will still be there, but I also want to return to the valley in one piece, so I nicely turned back. Sinji vrh is still waiting for me. Otherwise the trip to the window is great, the wind isn't felt much up to there due to walking through bushes and rocks.

Today my husband and I were probably the only ones attempting Sinji vrh. At Izvir Hublja crazy water, otherwise rain, fog, frozen snow on parts of the path, and quite strong gale up top. At the chapel up there we decided to descend, and for safety put on small crampons. Despite everything a nice tour, if the mountaineer knows how to see the beautiful things offered along the path.
marjana9. 01. 2011
Well, yesterday I wasn't at Otliško okno, but I go there often. I think what you describe as strong gale is not gale at all for us.
Enka12. 02. 2011
This parking lot at Izvir Hublja looks really small in the picture. Is it possible to get parking for 5-6 cars here around 9-10am in the morning? And if not - is there some nearby alternative?
Lj13. 02. 2011
Enka, at Otliško okno from Izvir Hublja I've been three times and despite arriving quite early (weekend, around 8am) I always barely got a parking spot. On http://www.zaplana.net/Izleti/OtliskoOkno/index.asp?sect=2 it says: "At Izvir Hublja you will notice a small parking lot, some additional space can be found a bit higher along the road or at the inn above the spring".
Best, Ljubica
Enka13. 02. 2011
Ljubica, many thanks for the reply. I suspected it was like thatmrk pogled.
marjana13. 02. 2011
I don't agree with that. At Izvir Hublja there's a bit more parking, of course if parked correctly. Without the parking right at the inn, where hikers shouldn't park, there are at least 20 spots. You can also park along the road a bit further towards the Gorenje hamlet and in Gorenje hamlet. Since the road from Ajdovščina to Izvir Hublja is currently under repair, you can't park in front of the spring where it's usually possible, of course the parking spots are not marked. I think for 5-6 cars there won't be a problem, except if there's some event and on Sundays between 11 and 14 when there's more visitors at the inn due to lunches.
Enka13. 02. 2011
Thanks to you too marjana. I think we'll still prefer to check first in a somewhat smaller group, with 1-2 cars. Caution is the mother of wisdom nasmeh.

I'm wondering where the SPP stamp is located

Does anyone know if there's any snow up there?
Planning to go up on Sunday. Thanks!
Kokta2. 01. 2012
Yesterday we set off from Hublje spring towards Sinji vrh. Really beautiful sunny day, path dry, no wind mostly ideal conditions. Along the path nativity scenes, Otliško okno, stone snail, really one of the gems in SPP. Penzion Sinji vrh was open on 1.1.2012, which was a really pleasant surprise. Highly recommend visiting the pension where besides excellent cuisine and I emphasize very friendly service you can also see artistic paintings in the wonderful ambience of the pension. The surroundings below the summit are also worth seeing, I mean sculptures and the house with thatched roof ☺. More useful info… SPP stamp and summit stamp are in the pension, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Really highly recommend the hike ☺
darh27. 01. 2012
We climbed to the summit on Sunday via the path described here. The path is still dry of course, with only a few remnants of snow visible in a couple of depressions along the path. We returned via Stara Baba on the path which is also described on these pages. Some photos and more impressions from the trip here.
BlazG15. 10. 2013
Was on this path on Friday, first 2/3 of the path excellent, last part a bit of a "detour" along that road, unfortunately I didn't find another path. In the pension really extremely friendly, Otliško okno has its charm as does the path to it, the polž is something special too, view from the summit and by the pension spectacular. If anyone is interested, a couple more photos: https://www.facebook.com/Blazek/media_set?set=a.10201916528732275.1073741827.1155848250&type=1

We nicely started at the beginning of the Hubelj educational trail. Both windows experienced, wonderful snail, Sinji vrh interesting. But we returned to the valley on the path where there was a sign for Ajdovščina, after less than half an hour of walking we no longer noticed signs and followed the path Izvir Hublja there it is very dangerous for slipping, slippery ground, scree, leaves... In the hope that some of you won't return on this path and will find a better one. It really exhausted us and some hikers before us.
