Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Medvode, then at the Spar store we leave the main road and continue towards the railway station and settlement Sora. In Sora, first the road towards Katarina branches off to the left, and a little ahead also towards Osolnik. We drive on the road towards Osolnik and then after a shorter ascent we park on the parking lot below the church of St. Štefan. We can also park a little lower on the parking lot by the presbytery.
B) From Kranj we drive towards Škofja Loka, from the outskirts of Škofja Loka then we follow the signs for Gorenja vas. Before the Sten tunnel from the roundabout we take the exit in the direction of the settlement Sora. Further, we drive through the settlements Hosta, Pungert, Gosteče and Draga, to the settlement Sora, where we turn right towards Osolnik and then after a shorter ascent we park on the parking lot below the church of St. Štefan. We can also park a little lower on the parking lot by the presbytery.
C) From Poljanska valley we drive towards Škofja Loka and then along the bypass and through the Sten tunnel. After the tunnel we turn right and follow the signs for the settlement Sora.
Route description:
From the parking lot at the church of St. Štefan we continue on the asphalt road, which moderately ascends and after a short ascent brings us to a sharp left turn. Only a little above the mentioned turn, from the road a marked footpath branches off sharply to the right, which leads to Hom and Osolnik. We head onto the mentioned path, which goes into a dense forest and starts to ascend more steeply. Higher, the path levels out briefly and gets completely close to the road to Osolnik.
We continue slightly right on the marked mountain path, which a little higher splits into two parts. We again continue right in the direction of Hom (slightly left Osolnik - path which on the left side bypasses the peak of Hom) on an increasingly steep path. The path higher flattens, then in a few minutes of further walking it brings us to the summit of Hom, from which a nice view opens up towards Gorenjska.
From the top we continue in the direction of Osolnik on the path which starts moderately descending through the forest, then turns to the left and after a few minutes of descent brings us to the road to Osolnik. We follow the mentioned road to the right and follow it for approximately 15 minutes, to the sign by the road (to here also possible on marked shortcuts).
At the cross we continue right on the marked path in the direction of Osolnik. The path ahead first leads past the NOB monument, then starts ascending steeper through increasingly sparse forest. Higher, the path ascends even steeper along a wire fence, then in front of us we see the church on the summit of Osolnik, to which only a few steps of increasingly scenic walking remain.
Starting point - Hom 50 minutes, Hom - Osolnik 1:00.

Discussion about the trip Sora - Osolnik (via Hom)

The marked path branches off from the asphalt road already at the beginning of the parking lot to the left side and later crosses the road. The footpath completely avoids asphalt and only runs on macadam for a few short sections. The path is very interesting. The first part to the top of Hom is quite steep and suitable for building fitness. Later, you can partly rest a bit after the final steep ascent on the meadow to the top.

Very nice path, which we chose on Wednesday as the start of our ascent to Tošč. We didn't meet anyone over Hom, but then towards Osolnik quite a few. Full description of our path with photos can be found here.

For a uniform path description, Osolnik should be replaced with Church of St. Mohor and Fortunat. This way we will get a new category of hikes, namely from church to church. The starting point for the described hike is in the village of Sora.

tulipan, please don't exaggerate. The hill is called Osolnik, this site is hribi.net (not cerkvenahribih.net). Hikers also set off for Triglav, not to Aljaž Tower. Not to mention that the hill description clearly states: "From the top, on which stands the church of St. Mohor and Fortunat..." Signposts also say Osolnik (or Osovnik), not church. So let the description stay as it is.

He wanted to say that it would be better if the starting point was written as the village Sora. I also clicked through all the starting points before realizing that the mentioned church is in the village Sora.

The path at Hom is quite steep. The continuation of the path along and by the road through the blueberries is very pleasant. Caution, when there's mass in the church the parking lot is packed full.

Hello, I have a question for those familiar with the area. I'm interested in how far it is from the starting point at the church of St. Stephen to the beginning of the path to St. Jacob? I plan to do a slightly longer loop this weekend, so I'm curious about how much asphalt there is and how the orientation is. I would descend from Osolnik to the valley and then continue to Jacob. Is there perhaps a shorter connection between the two goals? Thank you for any help and best regards.

From Osolnik it's best to go to Miheličić's hut on Govejek (45 min), from there to Legastje (less than half an hour) and to St. Jacob (1 hour). From St. Jacob there is a marked path back to Sora. The paths are well marked, and all are described on this portal.

Between Osolnik and Jakob there is the Ločnica valley... I don't know which path you would take to Jakob but from the beginning of the valley to Legastje there are about four km of asphalt, to Katarina another three... If you start at the Jezeršek culinary house, you can make a slightly longer loop over the Polhograjec peaks and it's circular with about 1400 m ascent and around 24 km length.

Thanks to both for the reply, since I avoid asphalt I'll rather choose the path suggested by Mr. Stane. The tour will be quite wild, I plan to start in Šentvid in Ljubljana and via Toško Čelo, Katarina, Mali Tošč and Osolnik to Puštal or Škofja Loka and then back to Osolnik and via the hut on Govejek to Sora and then to Jakob, and via Bormes over Šentviški hrib back to Šentvid on the mrz per.

If it doesn't take me out I'd like to get back in one day. I didn't plan to carry a bivouac bag with me

Does anyone perhaps know which peak we see from Osovnik between Kočna and Zaplat? Probably in Austria.

Also my experiences regarding the above-mentioned loop Jakob - Osolnik, maybe useful for someone.. . A few years ago at this exact time, before November 1st, I parked my bike a bit further from Jezerško in Sora and went to Jakob on the path that goes past Studenčice and Tehove to the top. From Jakob then to Katarina and Grmada and on the shortest path (skipping Govejek) to Osolnik, where I arrived just in time for sunset. Since it was already getting dark, I went to Sora directly on the road from Osolnik. All in all, it added up to 6 hours of varied walking and beautiful memories of autumn hiking in the Polhograjci above Sora Best regards from the mountains!
