Access to starting point:
From Mozirje we drive towards Logarska dolina, but only to the village Strmec (village between Ljubno and Luče), where signs for Snežna jama on Raduha point us to the right on a narrower ascending road. The mentioned road, which has a few crossroads, we follow in the direction of Snežna jama and mountain hut Koča na Loki (crossroads are well marked). After 18 km (of which 11 km macadam) of driving from the spot when we left the main road, we come to a parking lot below Snežna jama.
Route description:
At the end of the parking lot, we notice signposts for Snežna jama, which point us to the right on a steep ascending cart track, on which in less than 10 minutes of walking we ascend to Snežna jama.
From Snežna jama we continue slightly right on a gently sloping mountain path (direction Loka and Raduha), which soon joins a wide cart track. We continue the ascent on the mentioned cart track, which past a grazing fence brings us to mountain pasture Planina Arta, where a smaller shepherd hut stands.
By the mentioned shepherd hut we notice signposts, which point us slightly left upwards on an at first poorly visible path (in fog, orientation is difficult). A little higher, the path becomes more visible, turns slightly to the left and after a few additional steps brings us into the forest. We continue the ascent through a conifer forest, on the path which higher brings us to the ridge of Raduha (view on Robanov kot). Here the path turns slightly to the right and then continues along the mostly covered ridge (spruces, larches and dwarf pines). The increasingly scenic path, which further runs through dwarf pines, after some time withdraws from the ridge to the right, where it crosses an indistinct secondary peak of Velika Raduha.
The path then starts ascending again and brings us from dwarf pines to the summit grassy slopes of Raduha, on which in a few minutes we ascend to the scenic summit.

Yeah, what did you expect in the cave

My husband and I also visited Snežna jama and were enthusiastic about both the cave and the guide. Interesting natural setting, not "commercialized" and a truly professional presentation by an experienced caver.

we visited the cave this spring and we liked it too. of course it depends on expectations. if you expect a Postojnska jama at 1500m it's understandable that you're disappointed. špela

I expected from postcards that this is an ice cave where I'd be walking among ice the whole time. But I was disappointed except for the initial hall. Ordinary cave nothing special like Postojnska jama and many others. In short, no point

Of course it's special because there are usually no karst caves at such altitudes. But it's not special in terms of stalactite richness, that's true. As I say, if you had some wild idea of what you'd see, it's clear you were disappointed. špela

If you want to see Snežna jama in all its beauty, visit it in spring as soon as it opens. Then you'll see why it's called Snežna jama; full of ice stalactites. By the way, I've been to the cave twice myself and both times particularly impressed by the guide.

I remember that little schnapps at the end. But the cave somewhat disappointed me.

The cave is something special. I was there last year and eight years ago. The difference is really big. Due to interventions in the natural environment, the ice and huge stalactites have almost disappeared (especially noticeable in July and August) The cave remains very interesting. Cold - so dress warmly. The path via Arto is somewhat steeper in a few places but without difficult sections Best regards, Franci

hi, on Friday 25.03.2011 it was still not possible, I talked to some hikers who came on this road, but they had to leave the car approx. 4km before Loka and continue on foot...

I'm wondering how long the path from Koča na Loki to Snežna jama takes, on foot of course best; Dejan

If you go from the parking lot before the turn-off to Planina Loka by car further to the signs for Snežna jama and park there, it's 10 minutes to Snežna jama !!

yesterday we "SNAILS" went to Raduha via Planina Arta, descended to the hut at Loki, crossed to Snežna jama and explored it. the cave is wonderful even though the ice pillars have already collapsed, real wilderness. praise to the youngest "snails" (9-12 years) and the cave guide, everyone found the path via Arta much nicer than the one to the hut. highly recommend

In summer yes, but I don't know how it is now.

Of course in summer you can. I'm asking if the road is already dry?

@Abuh, the answer to your question is correct.

If I went up the path described above to the summit and descended to Planina Loka, I'm curious how much walking there would be from the hut on the pasture to the starting point at Snežna jama, where I'd leave the car. Balončki
