Škalnica - Veli vrh (above Škalnica) (Way of the Cross)

Access to starting point:
We drive over the border crossing Jelšane and then leave the highway at the first exit Rupa; we can also reach this point via the border crossing Pasjak, continuing on the old road towards Rijeka. We soon turn left towards Rupa, where in the settlement we turn right towards Klana. Signs are slightly less noticeable. We drive through the settlement Lipa and after a few kilometers of driving, we arrive in Škalnica. We can park at the beginning of the village at the recycling spot, which extends the path by 10 minutes. Or we can drive to the end of the village, where at the church we turn left and park somewhere near the boules court.

Route description:
From the boules court, we proceed along the macadam road, which brings us to a crossroad in a few minutes, where we turn left. Here begins the first station of the Way of the Cross. Going straight leads to the nearby village Lisac. The road begins to ascend slightly more and leads us past the Stations of the Cross, which are situated at the turns. After 10 minutes, we arrive at the three crosses, where a road from the left joins, leading from the recycling spot in Škalnica. We continue slightly to the right past a bench with a table and ascend along the road for a few more minutes. When we spot the Mary's statue, a barely noticeable footpath branches off to the right, leading to Veli vrh. We head toward it and, after a 2-minute ascent, arrive at the indistinct Veli vrh.
