Access to starting point:
The village of Senaru is situated on the northern part of Lombok island in Indonesia (island east of Bali). The trail begins at the end of the road in Senaru village.
Route description:
The start of the trail is at the Rinjani trek centre at the top of the road in Senaru village at approximately 600 m above sea level. Registration with payment of the entrance fee takes place at the entrance. After the first hour, the trail reaches POS I at 934 m above sea level. The trail then ascends somewhat more steeply and reaches POS II at 1500 m after 2 hours. The temperature is more tolerable here. There are numerous macaque monkeys in the forest lying in wait for food leftovers. After two hours of walking (from POS II), the trail comes above the forest line. After a further 5 minutes, one arrives at POS III at an altitude slightly above 2000 m. The trail ahead is initially relatively flat, later increasingly steep until it reaches the edge of the crater at around 2640 m. The area is called Pelawangan I. From the crater rim opens a view of the crater of dimensions 6 km x 8.5 km, located 600 m lower. In the crater is Lake Segara Anak, which translates to “Child of the Sea”. The lake received this name due to its turquoise colour reminiscent of the sea.
To the lake, the trail then descends for the next two hours. The trail is somewhat steeper in places and requires some easy scrambling. On this side of the slope, pines soon appear, among which one walks all the way to the lake.

Along the route: POS I (934m), POS II (1500m), POS III (2027m), Pelawangan I (2641m)
