Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora via the border crossing at Rateče we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio. In Trbiž we continue left in the direction of Bovec and follow the road to the crossroads near Rabeljsko jezero. Here we continue right in the direction of Nevejski preval / Sella Nevea. We follow this road, which is mostly ascending, to the large parking lot at the lower station of the cableway, which leads to the Gilberti hut.
From Bovec we drive to the border crossing at Predel, from which we descend to the Italian side. Just a little after Rabeljsko jezero we come to the crossroads, where we continue left in the direction of Nevejski preval / Sella Nevea. Thereafter, follow the above description.
Route description:
At the end of the parking lot we notice the sign for the mountain hut Gilberti, which directs us to the lower part of the ski slope. When we step onto the slope we continue left and after a shorter ascent we step onto the transport-rescue road, which ascends along the slope upwards. Along the relatively steep and closed-to-traffic road new views open up step by step, which are the most beautiful towards the nearby Bela peč and the Montaž group of mountains. The road higher up gets very close to the cliffs of Bela peč and then brings us to the upper station of the cableway at the mountain hut Gilberti.
From the hut we slightly descend (direction west) into a smaller valley, where there is a path junction. We continue right in the direction of S.Grubia on the path which runs between the main Kanin ridge on the left and Bela peč on the right. The path ahead first ascends gently through the valley, then starts to ascend more steeply and after a few minutes of ascent brings us to an old military fort on the saddle Bela peč.
On the saddle we continue right where the inscription on the rock “Bila” directs us. After a shorter steep ascent the path brings us to the west side of the ridge. Here we first cross a steep slope towards the north in a gentle ascent, then start to ascend steeply to the right. When we reach the ridge we continue left and after a shorter steep ascent on an unsecured path we soon reach the summit.

Discussion about the trip Nevejski preval - Monte Bila pec

Yesterday we conquered Bela peč. The path is very beautiful and not too strenuous, although the part of the path on the ski slope could be rerouted off it. But the view from the top of Bela peč to the Kanin and Montasio chains is outstanding. The view of these two chains is also nice for most of the path.

Today we were at Bela peč. The trail from Nevejski preval to Koča Gilberti is anything but pleasant, but from the hut to the summit it is so much nicer. There is still some snow on the trail here, which we can cross without problems. The cable car is not yet operating, Koča Gilberti was closed. We met only one Triestiner and a group of ibex.

Today I climbed this quite unvisited peak in the Kanin mountain range . Fog accompanied us the whole time and sometimes quite a cold wind , only occasionally--but really only occasionally--did the peaks on the opposite side of the valley appear --that is, above Planina Pecol, and also the entire Kanin range. Too bad there were no views, but if the weather had been favorable to us, I would have gone to Črnelske Špice . They are still very inviting and realistically achievable. Koča Gilberti is probably still open, I conclude because the windows were not yet shuttered.

Does anyone know if the gondola still runs to Koča Gilberti, thanks.

Today we were at Bela peč. The gondola hasn't been running for a week already. Instead of the ski slope, we went from Nevejski preval to Koča Gilberti along a pleasant mountain trail that runs west of the ski slope. Practically all the way to the base of the wall, you walk through the forest the whole time. Unlike the road, the trail ascends more gently. Viewed from below, the start of this marked trail is completely on the right side of the ski slope. There is also a signpost there - 1h40.

A bit delayed: when we started hiking there was still some sun, later it got more cloudy. At the Bela peč saddle it was also quite windy. At the top it was already quite cold, enough for hats and gloves. The view could have been better. Montaž and the neighboring peaks were in clouds. But still a nice trip.

Has anyone hiked there in the last few days? Is there still any snow?

Crowds on the path from the hut to the saddle, these days (end of July) we cross another snowfield, there are still huge snowfields under Kanin, Prevala, ... From the saddle to the summit the path is really exposed (poles can be stowed away immediately), it climbs on rocks, at the beginning a new rope helps with crossing. At the top we were alone, we only met a family of ibex, and the view is really exceptional. The descent is an even greater challenge than the ascent. At the saddle you can catch your breath, we circled back to the hut along the botanical path that runs under the wall of Bela peč.

Hello, I'm interested if anyone knows when Koča Gilberti opens and if anyone has been to Bela peč recently, is there still any snow? Thanks
