Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled and Bohinjska Bistrica. In Bohinjska Bistrica, we continue driving in the direction of Lake Bohinj. When we arrive at the settlement Savica, past the bus stop we turn right onto a narrow asphalt road. We continue driving through the village and over the bridge we cross the Sava Bohinjka. Immediately after the bridge, we turn left and park on a smaller parking lot.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the asphalt cycling path parallel to the Sava Bohinjka. After approximately 500 meters, we leave the cycling path and head right onto a cart track.
The cart track quickly brings us into the forest where there is a smaller crossroads. To the left leads a cart track to a clearing, we continue right where after a few meters we come again to a junction. Here we also notice the first signs.
An arrow on the tree directs us left and a somewhat steeper ascent follows on a rutted cart track. Somewhat higher, the cart track turns right, but an arrow on the tree directs us left onto a slightly overgrown path. Continuing through the forest where the trail is mostly not visible, red markers on trees or rocks assist us. From the forest, we then come to the scree where the trail is again somewhat better visible. Here we continue left and cross the scree in ascent. The path then turns right and brings us to the entrance to the secured climbing path.
Before the entrance, we must equip ourselves with a self-belay set and helmet. Due to the somewhat narrower steel cable, the use of gloves is highly recommended.
In the first part of the secured path, we climb a slope on which there is also quite some soil and grass (difficulty up to C/D). On less demanding parts, the stretches of the steel cable are somewhat longer than usual on secured paths. Higher, the path turns slightly right and brings us to the chimney. Here climbing becomes more demanding and the use of climbing shoes and a sling for resting is also recommended.
The ascent through the chimney or dihedral reaches difficulty D/E.
On this part, it makes sense to use natural holds and footholds a bit more, as the steel cable is positioned mainly for protection.
Difficulty then begins to decrease and the path, on which there is again some more grass and smaller branches, brings us to the end of the secured path.
We descend along a poorly trodden trail marked with red dots, which later joins the path leading to Rudnica. We follow the mentioned path right and soon come to a larger clearing where there is a marked junction.
We descend right towards the village Brod. When we reach the mentioned village, we continue right on the cycling path back to the starting point.
The described path is of difficulty level D/E and is suitable only for experienced mountaineers with sufficient arm strength. The somewhat thinner steel cable than usual on such demanding paths can also cause some additional difficulties. The steel cables are attached to bolts and not to regular rope pitons as seen on most other secured paths. The climbing part of the path runs on south slopes, which are very hot in the summer months.

Discussion about the trip Savica - Kamin Široka polica (Ferata Kamin Široka polica)

I would ask the Alpine Association to arrange access to the via ferrata. I believe I'm not the only one who got lost searching for the via ferrata. Eventually found it, interesting satisfied.

What does the Alpine Association have to do with this?

I think such (un)maintained access is not so wrong, or it's intentionally unmaintained. This is not another Slovenian peculiarity, but it often appears abroad too. Especially in visited tourist areas, and Bohinj is one at home. The purpose is that not every ignorant tourist or hiker can find it, saving rescuers many interventions. Those who know what they came for just have to make a little effort.

First, the via ferrata should be built properly according to all standards and regulations, and if they don't exist here, the enthusiastic builders should look to more advanced countries in this field (Austria, Switzerland, France, etc.).. It's only a matter of time in this wall when the story from the other side of Lake Bohinj repeats

something like this: a via ferrata in every Slovenian village, ...and they grow like mushrooms after rain, some are edible, others not ...

Gams1. Eh, no! "via ferrata in every Slovenian village, ...and they are growing like mushrooms after rain" THIS IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE. They should only be properly maintained. It's a pity that municipalities don't join such projects and support the construction of via ferratas where possible, with some tenders or calls. I'm sure there would be interested parties. Similar to neighbors. It is part of the tourist offer. Many Gorenjska municipalities ignore via ferratas as part of "green tourism". Kranjska Gora is an exception, but Bohinj and Bovec are big black spots on via ferrata maps. So DON'T talk nonsense!
