Rifugio Selvapiana I.Lunelli - Rifugio Berti al Popera

Access to starting point:
Via the border crossing at Rateče or Predel we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio, and then we continue driving on the highway towards Udine. At the settlement Tolmezzo we leave the highway, and then we continue driving in the direction of the settlement Ampezzo and the mountain pass Passo della Mauria. After the pass the road starts descending and brings us into the Cadore valley, where we continue right in the direction of the settlement Auronzo. A little before the mentioned settlement we go right and continue driving towards the alpine pass Passo Monte Croce. Still before the road starts more seriously ascending towards the mentioned pass, we continue left in the direction of the Val Grande valley. Further we drive on a narrower and mostly asphalted road, which we follow to the parking lot at the hut Rifugio Selvapiana I.Lunelli.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on a macadam road which after a few minutes changes into a wide footpath. The path soon leaves the forest and soon brings us to a smaller bridge over which we cross a clear stream. The path ahead starts moderately ascending towards the head of the valley, which besides numerous peaks is also adorned by a relatively large waterfall. At the head of the valley the marked path turns to the left and then in a few hairpin turns ascends above the waterfall. Higher up over small bridges we cross some streams, and then the path in a few minutes of additional walking on an occasionally steeper path brings us to a marked junction. Here we continue right and after a short ascent we arrive at the hut Rifugio Berti.
