Route description:
From the parking lot in front of Ribniška koča we head onto a marked footpath in the direction of Partizanski dom, Koča pod Kremžarjevim vrhom, Črni vrh and Grmovškov dom pod Veliko Kopo. At first, we ascend on a cart track, and only a little further we reach a poorer macadam road, on which in a few steps we arrive at the accumulation lake on Mali Črni vrh, from where a beautiful view opens up that reaches all the way to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
From Mali Črni vrh we continue in the direction of Kop and continue along the poorer macadam road, which bypasses a fenced private koča on the left side. Further on, the road ends and the path leads us along a well-beaten trail, which first descends slightly; on an indistinct saddle at 1477 m altitude, a path to Mislinja branches off slightly to the left, but we continue straight towards Črni vrh and Grmovškov dom. The path ahead ascends mostly moderately, and we follow the marked path to the marked junction.
At the junction we go slightly left towards Črni vrh (straight to Grmovškov dom), where we first walk through the forest, then along the edge of expansive meadows with beautiful views we reach the highest peak on Pohorje, where there is a škorjanka that today mainly serves as a shelter for hikers in case of bad weather; in the past, charcoal burners built them, later also foresters.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in October 2022.

Discussion about the trip Ribniška koča - Črni vrh

Wonderful trail we walked with friends last weekend. Whoever really wants to rest their legs from more demanding terrain should head to Pohorje. I recommend it, especially suitable for our youngest or oldest. LP Andrej

Anyone going to Črni vrh, and also to other higher parts of Pohorje, for God's sake wear high boots and long pants if possible, because the number of ants is incredible. They climbed onto my boots while walking and crawled up my leg, so I had to shake nonstop. Otherwise a very nice path, nice outing!

Information is from 8.2., snow is up to 1m in places but there is a groomed cross-country track and no problem regarding hiking.

On Thursday, national holiday, I headed to Pohorje. I started in Ribnica na Pohorju, which is the closest starting point for us to hike to Ribniška koča and further to Črni vrh. The summit area of Pohorje is quite interesting and scenic, and it's nice to extend the hike to Velika Kopa, more on the link below. Ribniško Pohorje and Velika Kopa in pictures and words. Best regards! Tone
