Rettenegg - Geiereck (past Roseggerhaus)

Access to starting point:
Highway A2 Graz - Vienna / Wien we leave at the exit for Gleisdorf West, and then we follow the signs for Hartberg and Weiz, and later only Weiz. At the beginning of the town Weiz, we exit the roundabout towards the exit for the settlement Birkfeld and then follow the road all the way to the mentioned settlement, from where we follow the signs for Ratten and Rettenegg. At the beginning of the settlement Rettenegg, we turn left into the center of the settlement, and we park just a few dozen meters ahead in the parking lot by the largest stamp in the world, where hiking signposts, the post office, and a guesthouse are also located. We can also park in any other designated parking spot in the settlement.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we take the path following signs for the farm Feldbauer and the cottage Roseggerhaus, ascending to the right of the inn and post office. At several crossings through the settlement, we follow the blazes or signs for path number 741. The settlement quickly ends, and the path then begins to ascend on a rough macadam road, which higher up leads to an asphalt road. We follow this road to the left and continue to the farm Feldbauer, where we turn right, bypassing the nearby house on the right side. We continue slightly to the right of the cart track and ascend along a strip of trees into the forest, where we cross numerous forest roads and cart tracks several times. At a few crossings, we follow the blazes. Higher up, somewhere above 1400 meters altitude, the forest starts to gradually thin out. A little higher, the path turns slightly more to the left and, with a moderate ascent, joins a drivable macadam road. We follow this road to the right and, with increasingly beautiful views, continue to the cottage Roseggerhaus, a few minutes away.
From the cottage, we go right upwards in the direction of the summit Stuhleck and the observation tower Peter-Bergner-Warte. Immediately above the parking lot, we cross a grazing fence, and then ascend for a few minutes on grassy slopes, from which a beautiful view opens up. Higher up, we leave the grazing area and follow a gently sloping path to reach the macadam road.
Here we go right (left Amundsenhöhe) and on the road we can ascend below the peak Pretul, where on the right, only a few steps from the path, we notice the tower Peter-Bergner-Warte.
We bypass the tower on the left side, and the road then in a few minutes brings us to a marked crossing, where we continue on the right road (left downwards Moschkogelhütte).
Next follows a shorter easy ascent and we arrive at a grazing fence, which the road also crosses. Here, near the grazing fence, is the highest point of the peak Geiereck.
