Access to starting point:
We leave the Gorenjska motorway at the Hrušica exit and follow the road ahead in the direction of Kranjska Gora, but only to the village of Dovje at Mojstrana. Here we turn right (direction Dovje) and the road quickly brings us to the mentioned village from where we continue in the direction of Dovška Baba. The road soon behind the village brings us to a junction, where we continue on the right road (sharp left to Kepa and Borovje). Further, we drive for quite some time to the next junction, where we turn sharply left in the direction of Dovška Baba (straight to Plavški Rovt). We follow this road, which then leads us past the grassy meadows named Ravne (a few holiday cottages), to a barrier that prohibits further driving. We can park already a little lower on one of the parking spaces by the road (from Dovje to the starting point it is approximately 6.5 km).
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road by which we have parked. The road, which moderately ascends and leads us past the barrier, flattens higher up and brings us to a smaller saddle between Bela peč on the left and Dovška Baba on the right. We continue the ascent on the road, which already after a few steps of further walking brings us to the spot where we leave it, as the blazes direct us left onto a steep footpath that continues ascending through the forest. The path higher crosses a grazing fence and a short panoramic slope, then returns to the forest, where we reach a smaller unmarked junction. We continue left on the marked path (straight to the spring of the small well Starka, 1 minute), which steeply ascends again, then turns slightly to the right, where after a few minutes of further walking it brings us to the lower edge of the alpine pasture Dovška Rožca. Here the path turns left and after a few minutes of ascent over blooming meadows brings us to the shepherd's hut on the alpine pasture Dovška Rožca.
From the alpine pasture, we continue straight upwards towards the northeast on a well-visible but poorly marked path that starts to ascend the increasingly panoramic slope of Dovška Baba. The pleasant path, which ascends along the edge of a panoramic side ridge, flattens higher up and turns slightly to the right, where we step onto the main ridge of the Karawanks. Here ahead of us we see the not very compact summit of Dovška Baba, which we reach after less than 5 minutes of further walking.
Starting point - Planina Dovška Rožca 1:10, Planina Dovška Rožca - Dovška Baba 35 minutes.

Discussion about the trip Ravne - Frauenkogel/Dovška Baba (footpath)
|
| Kriška1. 11. 2006 |
Yesterday I did this trip. The path from Dovje is almost impossible to miss if you stick to the right side; side paths are marked "Baba". I could add to the description that there's a barrier on the road above Planina Ravne anyway, so you have to park there, but there are several notices stuck on trees and stones that practically prohibit parking ("don't park on plots, but on the access road"). Next observation - the path from Planina Ravne upwards in the lower part is somewhat sparsely but fairly freshly marked; higher up, just before Planina Dovška Rožca and after it, there are practically no marks, or some "prehistoric" ones, barely visible (and those only with some imagination). Maybe the marker who was renewing the marks ran out of paint or didn't feel like going further... I got the impression again that hikers (at least in summer) are not very welcome here - along the path there's a sign "beware of fierce bull" - and that's in a section where you don't have good options for hiding or escaping - I decided not to try repeating this path in summer .
I notice that the term "steep path" is quite relative. The path from the hut to the summit is described here as "not steep" except right below the summit. To me (and a couple of others on the path), the first part above the hut seemed quite steep, but not so much afterwards towards the summit, as the ridge you then walk along rises almost imperceptibly. Otherwise - it was a beautiful day, which was also used by a large group (about 14) of paragliders who were preparing for takeoff on Planina Dovška Rožca during my ascent.

Nice, short tour, also suitable for an afternoon trip. The summit of D. Baba is a living example of the fragile rock structure of this part of the Karawanks, which also includes neighboring Kepa, where you have to watch for breaking rock layers and falling stones during ascents and descents. The SW part of Baba summit looks like a wall built with old stones without mortar. You have the feeling that not much force would be needed to collapse it. The view, considering that, quite attractive. Also Planina Dovška rožca is probably one of the nicer ones in this area.

It's really nice. Nice view across Dolina Vrat to Luknja.

This reminded me of the "legendary" phrase by Jože Čop: "I lay on Baba, and looked through Luknja into Zadnjica ... "

Has anyone been to Dovška Baba recently, I'm interested in how much snow is left?

What about the flowers? Have the narcissus peeked out yet, are there any at all? I'm planning to go to this paradise tomorrow.

Lower down many things are blooming.. Under D. Baba narcissi are not as common as under Golica, but May is still what it is - the blooming month.. At the top there is certainly not much of anything yet, because the snow has just melted. Golica, Klek, Hruški vrh, Dovška Baba and even Kepa from our side have been completely snow-free for some time.

From the mostly sunny capital towards the Dovje, here and there a raindrop didn't exactly enthuse me and the dark clouds racing over the peaks promised a colder ascent to D. Baba. Quietly I tighten the laces on my boots properly, a Tucson drives up, which while reversing (he drove a bit too far and couldn't turn left) almost gets its left rear wheel stuck in the ditch. I wave to him and say: be careful not to slip. The driver snaps a really rude reply, mind your own business you old hag, that I was speechless. I think I wouldn't want to meet this mountaineer in case of any problems. It didn't spoil my good mood and puffing towards the top. I have to write that there are quite a few narcissi right below the top of Planina Dovška Rožca and they haven't bloomed yet. The view will be beautiful next week, on the white carpet.

Was today on Hruški vrh and then also on Dovška Baba. Super - and doesn't take much time.... started around quarter past 3 and was back at the ramp around 6 pm. Recommend!

Has anyone been to Dovška Baba in the last few days after the last snowfall? How much snow is there and how far can you drive by car? To Ravne?

I'm curious about the conditions on Friday at Dovška Baba, given the currently nice weather forecast, especially the snow conditions.

Yesterday we went on the mentioned path to the top. No more snow, but on the descent we already encountered a viper sunning itself by the path. Anyway, I must mention that Dovška Baba is an excellent viewpoint, there are few like it in the Karavanke. When looking towards Triglav, the thought crossed my mind that the one who named Vrata, Luknja and Zadnjica perhaps sat on top of Dovška Baba with a woman in mind. In short, a view for gods in both cases.

No, it’s not anymore. It’s open only during the grazing season (when the shepherd is up there).

Can someone tell me if there is a stamp and ink pad at the top? Regards Marko

Answer from the armchair If you're a serious stamp collector, always carry an ink pad with you..even on Triglav..whether there is or not, whether it's dry or not ..you never know..if there's a stamp up there I don't know.... I've only been up there in winter, when the box was deep under snow..

what about reaching the top of Baba in these snowy conditions. the path is nasty, risk of slipping, suitable for children, it's dangerous for all of us who are not climbers or skiers. please reply.

Hello, Maybe someone knows what the conditions are like on Dovška Baba, Dovje?.. Is there still snow?

Hiked the path on 14 August 2020 on a nice sunny day, by 10am it was already quite hot. Otherwise the path has no special features, just caution needed on wet roots which can be slippery.

I have already been to Dovška Baba once, but back then we started in Dovje, this time we shortened the ascent by driving to Ravne. We reached the summit under strong sun and continued towards Hruškov vrh. We enjoyed considerable solitude, while the nearby Kepa was crowded with people. From Dovska Rožca we descended to the car along the road. We concluded the day with an excellent lunch and refreshment at Šobc.

Much nicer excursion in snowy conditions. But I didn't know that before either, I learned it yesterday .

No views today as expected, the summit was covered in thick fog. We parked about 2km lower than the bend for Baba (straight - P.Rovt). Higher up it's also possible if you don't mind for the car :-) Safe steps to all. Regards

Nice trip, partly cloudy partly sunny, nice view of Triglav, Vrata, Kot, Krma. At the barrier - electric shepherd there are two paths left into the forest, before the barrier to Bela peč, 100m further after the barrier to Dovška Baba. I was on both (to Bela peč from here 20'). For everything together, when I walked a bit more on the road below, it took about 2.5 hours.

Pleasant short hike, extended to Hruški vrh. The road to the starting point is gravel, but very well maintained.

Yesterday - visited Dovška Baba. There was still some snow below the summit, today the slope is probably more snowy. Frost and wind were working overtime, as it was blowing all the time. Views in all directions wonderful. On the return the summits were already enveloped in mists. These too are beautiful and magical. The road from the mountain pasture to the barrier is nice, gravelled. Also from Dovje towards the barrier at Ravne is not bad. Good luck! https://jelenkamenmajdag.blogspot.com/2022/11/dovska-baba-s-pridihom-zime.html

On Saturday I did a circular path from the place where the markings from the forest road direct us left onto the steep path through the forest to the pasture and hut below Dovška Baba. Up to there the path is nicely marked, from the hut to the summit and further towards Hruški vrh I at least didn't see any markings, although the path is described as marked. But luckily there's only one path along the ridge, so it's impossible to miss it. From Hruški vrh you then descend a bit back where the sign for Dovje directs you across the slope back to the hut. For the return I decided to go along the forest road and thus "closed the loop" at the place where I turned from the forest road into the forest. From Baba to Hruški vrh there was quite a cold wind blowing, so gloves were quite useful, at Hruški vrh the warmth of the autumn sun provided for pleasant lounging and enjoyment of the peace and beautiful views.
