Access to starting point:
We leave the Primorska highway at the Kastelec exit and follow the signs for Podgorje. Over the Podgorje border crossing, we enter Croatia. We drive through Jelovice to Vodic, where we turn right. Then we drive through Dane to the next crossroad, where we turn left toward Račja vas. We drive to the beginning of the village Rašpor, where we park in a suitable spot by the road before the village.
Route description:
From the starting point, we go to the signposts, which are by a tree at the beginning of the village. We head towards Marećica and ŽP Buzet. The cart track is initially gentle and runs along the edge of a meadow, then it begins to slightly ascend and transitions into a lane of forest. Soon the forest starts to thin out. The cart track makes a larger turn and then we pass onto larger meadows. In a few minutes of gentle ascent, we reach a crossing on Kosmatica, and on the left, we see a stamp box. We continue left on a poorer footpath in the direction of Marećica. On the cart track ahead, you reach ŽP Buzet. The path leads us through a short stretch of forest and we arrive at a grassy edge. The path turns to the left and ascends a bit more steeply. The path is in some places somewhat rocky. Soon the path levels out and we step onto the indistinct peak Vrtelj. From the top, the path begins to descend almost imperceptibly. In a few minutes, we return near the edge and begin slightly ascending, with increasingly better views towards part of Istria, and soon step onto the Prapoče viewpoint, where the view opens up. We continue forward on a small footpath that veers slightly away from the edge. Soon we begin ascending more steeply and enter the forest. The path follows an indistinct ridge, which is in places quite scenic, and in 20 minutes we reach Marećica, where there is a guestbook and some views.
The description and pictures refer to the condition in October 2024.
