Rakitna - Županov vrh (west path)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Koper, take the Brezovica exit, then continue driving in the direction of Podpeče (to Podpeče we can also come from Črna vas or Ig). In Podpeče, continue in the direction of Borovnica, Krim and Rakitna and continue driving for a short time by the edge of the Ljubljana Moor, then signs for Rakitna point us to the left onto a steep ascending road. The road then leads us through Preserje, where it also starts descending. After a short descent, continue left in the direction of Krim and Rakitna, and we follow the mostly ascending road to Rakitna (after the turn-off for Krim the road starts descending), where we park on a parking lot at the church.
B) First, we drive to Cerknica, then continue driving in the direction of Begunje; when we get to Begunje, we follow the signs for Rakitna. When we get to Rakitna, we park on a parking lot by the parish church at Rakitna.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we head to the marked path or initially the road in the direction of Krim, Dom v Iškem Vintgarju, farms Benko and Ustje, Vrbice and village Osredek. The road first leads past the chapel, Mercator store, and after a short ascent brings us to the spot where the road branches off to the left towards the nearby Okrepčevalnica Krimček, and we continue somewhat to the right and further on the marked road. The road then leads us past some pastures and houses, then splits into two parts.
We continue left upwards (right leads the road towards health resort MKZ Rakitna) on the road, which after a short ascent splits again. This time we continue straight in the direction of Krim (right partisan hospital Krvavice and Iški Vintgar) on a worse macadam road which becomes a little steeper. When the marked path turns right, we leave it and continue left on an unmarked cart track which starts to ascend steeper through the forest. Through the forest we first ascend along the edge of the pasture, so occasionally a view opens towards Rakitna and Novaška gora. The quite steep cart track higher turns somewhat to the right and brings us to the ridge northwest of Županov vrh. On the ridge a nice view opens towards Krim, and we continue right on the cart track which continues through the forest. When the cart track, which otherwise leads to the antennas on Županov vrh, withdraws somewhat to the left from the ridge, we leave it and continue the ascent on a poorly visible footpath which continues along the ridge. When after a few minutes the forest ends, we return to the cart track, along it with ever better views in one or two minutes of further walking we reach Županov vrh.
