Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Škofja Loka, then continue driving towards Železniki. In Železniki we come to an intersection, where the road to Kropa branches off to the right. Here we continue straight ahead and follow the main road for only about 100 m, then signs for Prtovč direct us right onto an ascending road, which we follow to a large parking lot near the church in the mentioned village.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we walk past the church and NOB monument to the beginning of the village, where we come to a well-marked junction. We continue slightly right in the direction of Ratitovec over Razor (left Ratitovec over Poden) along the road that takes us past houses to a wide and well-trodden path.
The marked path goes straight into the forest and begins to ascend transversely across relatively steep slopes. Higher up, the path crosses a poor forest road, shortly after which a marked path from the hunter's hut joins from the right. We continue towards Ratitovec along a gentle path that further crosses steep slopes dangerous for avalanches in snow. The path then turns slightly to the left and begins to ascend more steeply. The steepness soon eases, and the path brings us to a small plateau named Razor, where there is also a junction.
We continue straight (right Kosmati vrh, Planina Klom and Krekova koča over Vratca) along a wide path, which soon turns left and begins to ascend steeply. The path ahead crosses a short stretch of forest, then brings us to the panoramic grassy slopes of Ratitovec. Here the path levels out, turns slightly to the right and, with fine views, brings us to the Krekova koča na Ratitovcu.

Discussion about the trip Prtovč - Krekova koča na Ratitovcu (via Razor)
Gost4. 11. 2006
Quite steeper and more demanding trail than via Povden. jezen And much more "closed"; no views.
Kriška5. 11. 2006
I walked both (up one, down the other), the trail via Razor was quite interesting for me, neither seems demanding to me.

For all those who don't know these paths, the nicest path to Ratitovec is from Zg. Danje village. After the initially steep ascent we reach the ridge from which there is a wonderful view, then we walk along the top all the way to the hut. I can describe it in more detail if there's interest. LP
Gost9. 11. 2006
Is the path from Zg. Danje village marked? If not, can you briefly say how to orient? Thanks and best regards! Ljubica
dajnar110. 11. 2006
The path is fully and nicely marked. nasmeh LP, dajnar1
Gost4. 12. 2006
Dajnar1 thanks for the info on access from Zg. Danj - realized.
Also for me the nicest access to Ratitovec so far. Beautiful places under Ratitovec but sadly empty villages. best, Ljubica

I already posted this recommendation once. From Prtovč, turn right with the car before the houses past the hunting hut to Jesenovec (about 4 km) to the barrier. It's on the left side of the road. Leave the car at the barrier and walk over it on the renovated road to the wonderful Planina Klom. There you can be well served by the shepherd. From there to Kosmati vrh (good half hour), then along marked paths to Vratca and say past the iron ore mine or some other marked path to Gladki vrh under which the Krekova koča is located. You can descend the same way back to the car or directly to Prtovč and then with another car (if you have it) to Jesenovec to pick up the first car. Happy trails.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how long the path from Rovtarica (on Jelovica) to Ratitovec takes?
Gost25. 08. 2007
I returned via planina Klon. Friendly staff, good sour milk, lots of beautiful goats. Božo
Tadej20. 07. 2009
It is worth noting that yesterday on Ratitovec, despite numerous visitors, I noticed two vipers. One of them was on the marked path, the other a few meters away.
Janiel7412. 11. 2011
Today to Ratitovec via Razor up via Podna dolnasmeh Excellent tour. In the hut some of the best flancati.
zanesenjak22. 08. 2012
I recommend the same trail as Janiel74. In the hut phenomenal sour milk and žganci. And the staff is cool.

Hello!
I wanted to ask for the nicest path to Ratitovec (e.g. to the hut) but I see I've already read it in the previous "mail" !

Hello
for New Year's Eve we're heading to Ratitovec. Do you recommend an ice axe? Crampons are always in the backpack anyway.
neyo29. 12. 2014
Barentoter
For Ratitovec you don't need an ice axe. But I would recommend going via the path over Razor. If you go to Poden, there are a few exposed meters, if the snow is frozen and the path windblown. Go to Razor. And back definitely to Razor. Especially if it's very festive. The path is safe. Crampons are recommended. You might not need them, but have them with you. I always carry them in winter. The small ones. I've been celebrating New Year's Eve on Ratitovec with a group for three years in a row. I can only say it's unique. When going back, the path is always very smooth......velik nasmeh
neyo29. 12. 2014
Maybe we'll see each other too. Nothing is final yet where I'll celebrate New Year's Eve. velik nasmeh
Barentoter29. 12. 2014
Thanks for the useful tips. Maybe we'll toast together nasmeh

Hello!
I'm interested in the conditions on Ratitovec,
if anyone was there this week
thanks and best regards
mornar18. 03. 2017
I'm interested what the Ratitovec path is like. Is there still any snow or even ice? Thanks for the info. lp.
Nordung22. 07. 2018
If you're deciding between the path over Razor or Poden - then ABSOLUTELY recommend over PODEN. Over Razor it's unpleasant, endless, viewless...
zvezdica_zaspanka10. 09. 2018
Today I was at Ratitovec, up via Razor and down via Poden - the path via Razor didn't seem demanding or unpleasant to me, quite the opposite... Via Poden it's really nicely scenic up under the summit, but the last/first part along the forest road to Prtovč drags on a bit. Still a pleasant and beautiful circular route!
Vassago22. 12. 2018
One of those catastrophically marked paths where they imagine the markings are good, so don't rely on their sense, because you'll get lost in some forest if you're a newbie. Slovenia lacks standards. It really annoys me.
Vassago22. 12. 2018
P.S. of course I mean those going for the first time. The others will anyway be smart and play know-it-alls, saying "it's super marked". Video coming with which I'll confirm the claims.
GregorC22. 12. 2018
I'm eagerly awaiting this video. Because if this path isn't marked as it should be, then it isn't anyzmeden
zvezdica_zaspanka30. 12. 2018
I have no idea about mountains (I'm diligently learning) and I went to Ratitovec for the first time, and I had no doubts about where the path goes nasmeh
sAleska26. 02. 2019
Which path is safer for young, not the most experienced people? From the comments it seems the one over Razor? Probably crampons needed?
Daaam26. 02. 2019
If there is no new snow, it doesn't matter where you go. It's not difficult anywhere. Don't forget your "spikes".

Hiked yesterday, circular route from Prtovč - up via Razor and down via Povden. Both paths very beautiful, well-maintained and nicely marked. Via Povden is indeed more scenic, great for descent to enjoy the views. Nice to detour to Gladki vrh (5 min from the hut), from both peaks wonderful views in fine weather practically on all our mountains. Prtovč has a fairly large and well-kept parking lot, fee 2€ for whole day, paid by SMS or app (that pink thing common now at pay stations - EasyPay or EasyPark or similar). Great food at the hut, quite crowded nasmeh but deserve the best hut title in my opinion.
Bine3867. 11. 2021 08:13:52
Prtovč parking lot - Payment is possible via the EasyPark app, which however in the history, immediately after the service, shows as if the parking was not paid (amount 0.00 EUR instead of 2.00 EUR). All of us who used this app for the first time were in doubt and paid for parking also via SMS, as the parking enforcement is very prompt (many parking tickets were stuck on the cars). The next day, in the middle of the night, the bank transaction was made. In short, most of us paid for parking twice. It's only 2 EUR, but it gives the impression that the municipality of Železniki does this on purpose.
anica.zu7. 11. 2021 14:55:53
I recently went from Zg. Danj, half the path through the forest (you need to be careful right at the start not to miss the marked path - I did and walked on forest roads, no problem), then half the path is crossing beautiful grassy slopes with really wonderful views. First you reach Altemaver, then to the hut on Ratitovec. Good 2 hours of beautiful path. Down I went to the Torka farm and back to the car on an almost flat nice gravel road. Worth doing this loop.
dprapr7. 11. 2021 17:50:43
Bine, you have to check under My parkings - Ongoing, then you immediately see if the parking is recorded and in progress.
Also, when I was up there this year, some got tickets. And you only need to pay 2 euros for the whole day. zmeden
For example, at Kozjak waterfall it's hourly, and the parking isn't as organized.
nina47. 11. 2021 18:47:55
I had the same problem as Bine myself. Even on My parking, the 4 paid parkings only appeared after a day and a half! It seems to me that the main problem is poor signal (at least for me).
dprapr7. 11. 2021 18:52:50
Under Ongoing, it should show immediately if entered correctly.
Under history, later.
It is true that sometimes they charge the card on a working day and not immediately.
Senna1320. 07. 2025 14:27:47
Which trail should I take where there are no steep drops along the path, because I really have bad vertigozmeden
ppegan20. 07. 2025 20:07:12
Then over Razor, over Povden is quite exposed, might have vertigo issues there. Or even better, from Planina Klom.
mirank20. 07. 2025 20:49:35
The most beautiful and longest is from Soriška planina, you won't have any vertigo problems therenasmeh
