Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway we take the Lesce exit and follow the road in the direction of Bled, there at the traffic-light intersection signs for Pokljuka direct us to the right. This road, which in the lower part runs through some villages and later starts ascending steeper, we follow to Mrzli Studenec (mountain pasture, which is located a good 50 meters behind the intersection, where left downwards the road to Bohinj branches off). In the middle of the mentioned mountain pasture from the main road the road which runs to Medvedova konta, Pri Rupah and mountain pasture Javornik branches off to the right. Here we turn right and in the next crossroads we follow the road in the direction of the mountain pasture (Za)Javornik. The road then runs past the mentioned mountain pasture and a good kilometer ahead brings us to a parking lot at the monument to fallen NOB soldiers.
Route description:
From the parking lot we head onto the footpath in the direction of Blejska koča on Lipanca, which past the NOB monument quickly leads us into the forest. The path, which initially ascends gently, ascends somewhat more steeply after a good 10 minutes and brings us to a forest road, which we only cross. We continue on the cart track in the direction of Lipanca, which higher brings us to the place where we join the path from mountain pasture Javornik. A fairly wide path, which all the time runs in the embrace of spruce forests, then higher brings us to the next junction, where we again continue in the direction of Lipanca (left). We continue the ascent on a very wide cart track, which in a gentle ascent brings us in a few minutes to the grazing area of mountain pasture Lipanca. Here the path turns right and leads us in a moderate ascent along the right lower edge of the mentioned mountain pasture. This is followed by crossing a grassy slope and the path, which brings us back into the forest, makes a sharp right turn at the NOB monument, after which we reach the shepherd and mountain hut on mountain pasture Lipanca.
From the mountain pasture we continue right on an initially poorly visible and even worse marked path, which after a short ascent brings us to the upper edge of the mountain pasture, where there is also a smaller junction. We continue slightly left in the direction of Lipanski vrh, Brda and Debela peč on the path which bypasses a larger sinkhole on the right side. A little further on, a path towards Lipanski vrh branches off from the "main" path. We continue slightly right in the direction of Debela peč on the path which gradually begins to ascend ever steeper. When we pass this somewhat steeper section of the path we reach the next junction, where we continue straight in the direction of Debela peč (left Lipanska vrata and Brda). We continue on a gentle path, from which after a few more steps a path to mountain pasture Klek branches off to the right. The well-marked path then bypasses the interesting peak Spodnja Brda (1844m) on the left side and thereafter begins to ascend more steeply on less and less vegetated slopes. When we reach the spacious ridge the steepness eases and the path turns right, where it bypasses the dwarf pine-covered Okroglež. This is followed by a 10-minute crossing towards the east, which ends at the summit base of Debela peč. Here the path ascends steeply and after a further 10 minutes brings us to the panoramic summit.

Discussion about the trip Pri Rupah - Debela peč
kolesar8. 04. 2007
Has anyone been around this area in the last few days to report on the conditions? I'm particularly interested if the snow holds a person or if it gives way? :zmeden
Gost8. 04. 2007
Today I was in the mountains though not on Debela peč, but the snow was sinking to the bottom.
Gost11. 04. 2007
We went to Blejska koča and then to Mrežce, because Debela peč was not yet trodden on 09.04.2007, it was sinking quite well.
kljukec1. 03. 2008
1.3.2008 but if going to Debela peč you need crampons and want quick reply cuz tomorrow I'd go to Debela peč but dunno path desc says need crampons here but articles say no what now need or not
Kamin2. 03. 2008
Dear KLJUKEC !!!
In winter conditions crampons are not only recommended but mandatory in the backpack, if you need them you'll judge yourself.

Safe steps to you, GOOD LUCK
kljukec3. 03. 2008
kamin, thanks for such a nice replybig
fpetel13. 03. 2008
Twice you don't need them third time you do. Debela peč has some nice spots where you can test luck without crampons and if no luck you tumble few 100m into abyss as happened to my bottle that fell from backpack. Crossing summit slope in bad conditions avalanche danger, with ice slip risk.
strelec6. 03. 2008
Those who ask in winter whether crampons are needed at 2000 m, remember that in winter crampons belong in the backpack, an ice axe is attached to the backpack, and off you go happily to the mountains; if the path is dry they stay in the backpack, if slippery they go on good mountain boots and there will be far fewer accidents in the mountains. To those who think it is a pity to spend a few hundred euros on their own safety, I recommend observing the mountains from the home armchair on a nice sunny day. Best regards, SHOOTER
jani3317. 03. 2008
strelec hats off to the comment I support it 100% !!!!
Biser gora8. 03. 2008
I think no one minds spending a few 100€ on safety. But we must know that some simply don't have that money but still want to go to the mountains. That's why they askzadrega
Otherwise in Slovenia we have many mountains, also those accessible without crampons and ice axe. They are significantly lower but still beautiful.nasmeh
sector17. 03. 2008
Well, currently crampons for Debela peč don't help at all, maybe some snowshoes.
On Friday I intended to "attack" Debela peč, but it didn't work. Too much untrampled snow! On the advice of the Blejska koča warden I turned towards Mrežce instead (and even there it was so-so... with my cca. 100 kg it sank quite a bit). LP
Biser gora18. 03. 2008
I'd rather take touring skis than snowshoes. And downhill I don't have to walk, but ski down enjoyably. nasmeh
Klin21. 03. 2008
Maybe someone knows the ascent to Debela peč from Srednja Radovna via Stresna dolina and Tratne peči?
falcon31. 10. 2010
Very nice, easy tour. We've repeated it several times with various variants, but there's always something new to see on it. On the way, it's also worth stopping at the hospitable Blejska koča, which also offers good refreshments.mežikanje
falcon25. 11. 2010
Even today's visit was a super nice experience.nasmeh
majamaja16. 08. 2012
Hi! Is this a suitable little tour for a one-year-old child in a backpack?
Daaam16. 08. 2012
I think there shouldn't be a problem...just as long as it doesn't blow too much around his head nasmeh
majamaja16. 08. 2012
Thanks for the reply. Eh, the wind, our Zoja has already survived, I was more interested if there isn't by chance some rocky (climbing) section where it would be harder for her to pass with a backpack on her backnasmeh And 2 hours and 15 min is realistic walking time for an average female hiker?
Laščan16. 08. 2012
The time is realistic, the most "climbing" is on pictures 22,23 and 24, so overall nothing for an average hiker. We wish Zoja nice views with her backpack on.
majamaja16. 08. 2012
Thanks for the quick and friendly replies, tomorrow evening I'll report if we'll manage to conquer Debela peč nasmeh
majamaja24. 08. 2012
I completely forgot to report that the little girl made it to Debela peč excellently, Zoja enjoyed it 100/h!
vespuci16. 10. 2012
Approximately how long does the trail from Blejska koča na Lipanci to Debela peč via Lipanski vrh, Brda and Okroglež take? Thanks in advance for the answer.
katja8718. 06. 2013
On Sunday, 16.6.2013, a group of 13 hikers set off to the summit of Debela peč.

We nicely circled the path: parking lot Pri Rupah - Blejska koča na Lipanci - Debela peč (via the eastern path) - Blejska koča na Lipanci (via the western path) - parking lot Pri Rupah.

We had a great time velik nasmeh The path is really beautiful and not demanding, so I recommend it to everyone mežikanje

You can view the photos from the hike on the website of Planinsko društvo Matica Murska Sobota: http://www.mojalbum.com/pdmaticams/20130616-debela-pec/parkirisce/20865893

One of our female hikers lost both insoles from her hiking boots, so we had to improvise and bandage both her feet with bandages (picture 79) :p

The most beautiful mountain and one of the most beautiful paths in Slovenia for me. Suitable for everyone with wonderful views...

how passable is the road after the rain?
Majdag15. 02. 2015

.. ..The forest road is plowed further this year. So a circular drive is possible.nasmeh

Majda - is it possible to go without snowshoes?
Majdag15. 02. 2015

...Janez it depends on the individual. Personally, for better footing I quickly put them on my boots. The step feels safer to me, if some snow lump builds up, I just stomp it a bit and it's fine...
Majdag15. 02. 2015

... Janez one more thing, you can use snowshoes, but also without them. To Debela peč they are not necessary...
lejko10. 11. 2015
Has anyone been up there recently and can tell what the conditions at the top are like? Is there any snow?
ljubitelj gora10. 11. 2015
There hasn't been snow for a good while.
Zgembo18. 11. 2015
I was there on Sunday, no snow even a trace anywhere nasmeh nice weather, a bit windy at the top, here are some photos nasmeh

Has anyone been to Lipanci today and further towards Debela peč or Mrežice? How is the access to Planina Javornik or to Rupa and is anything trodden? Regards
Laščan28. 11. 2015
Renewing the question?
ljubitelj gora28. 11. 2015
I walked it.

7.8.... Okroglež, Debela peč, Brda are always beautiful peaks above Lipanci. The paths are pleasant and in the morning hours there aren't many visitors yet. Livestock grazes on the paths and meadows.nasmeh

Yesterday wonderful day above Lipanci.
To Blejska koča via Krucmanova konta. Then directly to Mrežče, Lipanski vrh, to Brda, to Okroglež and Debela peč.
Views phenomenal and summer heat.

Thanks for the answerssmile
ana22. 04. 2021 08:20:39
Yesterday I was at Mrežcah. Have to go on foot from the junction to Šport hotel and across planina Zajavornik, because the roads are not plowed.

2.10...Okroglež, Debela peč, Brda...

Beautiful sunny day and wonderful views. Most visitors at Debela peč. The path towards Okroglež is overgrown, and there are few visitors. Brda mostly solitary. The road from Mrzli studenec to planina Zajavornik is still okay. Then the holes begin. Returned via the other side and turned left at the barrier. You're on asphalt sooner. Larches towards the summits are already getting golden color...smilesmile

yesterday (with dog) at Debela peč - few people; road is - pretty much in shambles all the way to the hut at the turnoff for M.k. - further OK - drivable, with some big potholes - trail from monument is anyway "highway"- from hut (Blejske) towards D.P. up to 3/4 freshly marked, higher still patches of south-facing snow (sank to knees a couple times)- caution needed! - annoying to walk-
Safe steps!velik nasmeh
