Access to starting point:
From the highway Razdrto - Nova Gorica we take the exit Ajdovščina and follow the road ahead towards the village Lokavec (to Lokavec we come from the center of Ajdovščina, or from the old road Ajdovščina - Nova Gorica, where at the settlement Cesta we turn right). From Lokavec we continue driving on the ascending winding road in the direction of Predmeja. We follow the mentioned road to the mountain signposts for Čaven, Veliki rob and Kucelj (signposts are located between the quarry and tunnels, road sign approx. 10 km). We park a few tens of meters lower on the parking lot by the road.
To the starting point we can also come from Godovič, over Črni vrh and Col to Predmeja. In this case, from Predmeja we descend towards Ajdovščina and then soon after the third tunnel we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot we first walk to the signposts, then we head to the Srednječavenska pot. The path, which goes immediately into the forest, first moderately ascends and then continues by crossing the slopes towards the south. Wide and well-made mountain path, soon passes to steep slopes (danger of falling stones) and gradually turns more and more towards the right. A little further, beautiful views open up from the path on Nanos and Vipava valley, and the path gradually passes into more rocky terrain. A little further, the path again passes into a dense forest, where it starts to descend lightly. After a shorter gentle descent we come to a marked junction, where we continue right steeply upwards in the direction of Čaven (left downwards Lokavec, straight continues the Srednječavenska pot).
We continue the ascent on the "lokavška" path, which ascends quite steeply. After some time, the path, which for most of the time ran through the forest, again crosses some panoramic slopes. A little further, the path brings us to the ridge, where we have two options for continuing. The left path runs a little below the ridge and is less panoramic than the one that runs along the ridge, but it is more sheltered in case of strong bora wind. After 10 minutes both paths join and bring us to the unvegetated grassy slopes east of Mala gora.
Here the steepness eases and the path continues over nice meadows, where in spring and summer we notice a lot of mountain flowers. Higher up, the path from Stomaž joins from the left, and we continue straight on the path, which in a few minutes of further walking brings us to the hut on Čaven.

Nice path, honestly steep in some sections. Very pleasant hut, good food and friendly service

Enka, I agree with you, the path is quite steep in the second part, as for the time written on the directional sign at the start of the path - it's more for "fast" hikers, realistically it's about an hour and a half of normal walking (as written in the path description).

Really nice and varied trail. I noticed that Primorska huts have musical instruments as mandatory inventory. This one is no exception .

On Monday my friend and I went to Čaven from the tunnels to the hut. This path is the only one that was passable, the others are snowy and untouched. Perfect idyll, snow, sun and peace.

On Saturday 25.3.2017 we went to Kucelj from the abandoned quarry. First junction uphill. Requires a bit of effort. The trail is nice, well marked. Back along the entire middle Čavenski trail. Well marked. We already met climbers on the wall. The sun accompanied us the whole time. The trail is not dangerous. A little caution on the rocks is needed. But it is secured.

Yesterday on this path to the hut; wonderful day, beautiful path, great views. However, the path is exposed in places - especially a warning for families with small children. For our 7-year-old, otherwise a hiker with lots of stamina, it seemed almost too much... maybe more suitable for 10-year-olds and older. We are all different... Oh, and the above-mentioned slope is really steep - for those with "weak" knees, better take the other path down to Predmeja.

Hello. Does anyone know, is there a stamp also in front of the hut, in cases when it is closed?

Does anyone have the hut's phone number for booking an overnight stay? On the PZS site, the old caretaker is still listed, who the new one is I don't know, when I called him there was no new phone number either

For now the hut is closed. Until they find a new caretaker.

From what I've read, Mr. Blaško -the current caretaker has taken over the E Čibeja hut, and this one has been taken over again by the caretaker who was here a few years ago. Whether it's open now, PD Ajdovščina might know something.
