Potoče - Potoška gora

Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway, take the Kranj - east exit, then continue driving towards Jezersko. When we arrive in Preddvor, leave the main road and continue driving left, then after a few 10 m, opposite the Jelovica company, continue right towards the village Potoče, St. Jakob and Potoška gora and lake Črnava. Further on, the road leads us through the Hrib settlement, above which we arrive at a crossroads, where we continue straight (left Hotel Bor and lake Črnava, right Senior Citizens Home Preddvor). Next follows a good 100 m of slight ascent to the chapel, where the road turns right, and we drive along it past a few more houses, then before the Senior Citizens Home turn left onto a larger macadam parking lot. B) From the Jesenice - Ljubljana highway, take the Kranj - west exit and at the first crossroads continue left. Further on, we drive through the underpass under the highway, then arrive at a roundabout, from which we continue driving towards Golnik. The route ahead leads us through the Mlaka pri Kranju settlement, and at the end of the settlement we continue right towards the Srakovlje settlement. Next follows driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela to Zgornja Bela, where we continue right towards Preddvor. At the end of Preddvor, just a few 10 m before the road joins the main road Zgornje Jezersko - Kranj, we continue left towards the village Potoče, St. Jakob and Potoška gora and lake Črnava. Further on, the road leads us through the Hrib settlement, above which we arrive at a crossroads, where we continue straight (left Hotel Bor and lake Črnava, right Senior Citizens Home Preddvor). Route description:
At the beginning of the parking lot, we head onto the footpath that goes along the fence of the retirement home upwards. The path here steeply ascends through the forest and brings us to the junction at Senčnica Josipine Turnograjske in less than 10 minutes. If we continue right, there are only a few steps to the Senčnica where there is a logbook and some benches.
The path from the junction becomes level and soon brings us to a macadam road where there are also signposts. We continue left along the road and follow it in a gentle descent to a larger crossroads, where from the left also joins the road that leads from the parking lot near the Senior Citizens Home Preddvor and bypasses Senčnica Josipine Turnograjske.
At the crossroads, we head right onto the cart track alongside which there are signposts. After a short ascent along the mentioned cart track, we are again at a junction, where we head right. The left path goes to Novi grad. We follow the right path further through the forest for a few more minutes, then cross a macadam road which also leads to Jakob. Further on, the path relatively steeply ascends through the forest for quite some time and crosses the macadam road a few more times. Higher up, the path becomes somewhat more panoramic and when we cross the macadam road for the last time we already have a very nice view towards the church of St. Jakob. We continue further along the marked footpath all the way to a smaller saddle near the church where the view towards the north also starts to open.
At the junction where there are signposts we continue left and only a short ascent follows to the church and mountain hut Iskra na Jakobu.
From the hut we return to the mentioned saddle where we head onto the footpath towards Potoška gora and Javorjev vrh. The path starts ascending through the forest and brings us to a marked junction after approximately 15 minutes.
Straight leads the path to Javorov vrh, left it is only a minute to the viewpoint from where there is a very nice view towards Strožič, Cjanovci and Hudičev boršt. We head right here towards Potoška gora. We follow the right path further and it brings us to occasionally sparse forest with some views. But the path soon goes back into dense forest. The path further moderately ascends and brings us to the summit, where a bench is placed (Potoška gora).
