Access to starting point:
From Trbiž/Tarvisio we take the highway towards Videm/Udine. At the settlement Carnico, we leave the highway and first follow the signs towards the settlement Tolmezzo, then the signs for Austria and the mountain pass Pso di Croce Carnico / Plöckenpass. On the Italian side of the mountain pass, we park on a large parking lot.
Route description:
At the parking lot, we head onto the narrow road following the signs for Cellon (path 146). Already after a few dozen meters, we come to a junction where we go right onto the military mule track along which we then ascend through a sparse forest and meadows below the steep slopes of the mountain Cellon. The military mule track turns into a footpath and soon we also come to a junction, where we leave the path towards the Marinelli mountain hut and head right upwards. Here the path begins to ascend a little more steeply across the grassy slopes and then brings us to a junction of paths. We head left following the signs “Cellon”, while to the right lead more demanding paths to the same mountain.
The path further for quite some time crosses grassy slopes towards the west in ascent, then begins to ascend in zigzags. Such a path then brings us to a junction, where the inscription on the rock directs us to the right lower path, while left upwards leads the path towards Cresta Verde. The path then for a long time crosses increasingly steep slopes towards the east and brings us to a junction, where the remaining two paths to the mountain join us from the right. Here we will also notice along the path a lot of remains from the First World War. Further only the ascent follows along the somewhat less steep slope of the mountain to the top.
