Plöckenhaus - Untere Spielbodenalm (path 403)

Access to starting point:
From Slovenia, the starting point at the Plöckenhaus guesthouse is reached most quickly through the Karavanke tunnel, where at Beljak one turns towards Hermagor and continues on the regional road to Kötschach, just before which one turns left towards the Plöckenpass / Passo di Monte Croce pass. Follow the road to the parking lot at the Plöckenhaus guesthouse.

Alternative access from the Italian side. From Tarvisio on the motorway towards Udine. At Carnico take the exit and first follow signs towards Tolmezzo, then to Austria and the Passo di Croce Carnico / Plöckenpass pass. Drive over the pass to the Austrian side to the parking lot at the Plöckenhaus guesthouse.

Route description:
The hike begins at the parking lot opposite the Plöckenhaus guesthouse. A gravel road leads from the parking lot to Green Lake, which occasionally turns into a cart track. The trail is marked with number 403. To the lake it is a 10-minute walk (15 minutes to the eastern shore).

After the lake, a trail branches off to the left, turning into the slopes towards the Untere Spielboden pasture. On the steep trail uphill, rare views of the valley open up among the trees.

The trail then climbs to a gravel road or cart track, which is followed to the right. Follow the cart track eastwards, then the trail branches off to the left into the forest again. Follow the trail to the Untere Spielbodenalm pasture, on which a hut stands.
