Access to starting point:
The starting point of the path is across the road at the bus stop in Pliskovica (it starts on a concrete road). We can get to Pliskovica from the direction of Sežane through Dutovlje, or from the Vipava Valley through Branik and Komen.
Route description:
We start the path at the bus stop in Pliskovica. The path starts into the valley on concrete (approx. 100 m) and when we get to the valley a pond awaits us on the left. Exactly there is the crossroad which splits left or right. Both paths lead to Volnik.
We choose left and continue on the macadam road slightly uphill. The path is mostly flat with gentle depressions and leads all the time through the forest. Along the path we will also encounter the hunting observatory on the left.
When we get to the crossroad (triangular in shape), we can see signs with the names of trees. There we continue right. When we come to the next crossroad, we get to the road which comes if at the beginning at the pond we would turn right. There we go straight (slightly left) uphill on the footpath.
Soon after we step on the footpath we see the first sign for Volnik (wooden arrow). The path ascends all the time to the top through the forest and is well marked at every crossroad. After approximately half an hour of walking we come to a road (grassy) and there we can turn 100 m left, where under a nice branched tree there is a bench for rest. We return 100 m back and continue up the footpath for another 5-10 minutes and come to the summit.
On the top there is a mini panoramic platform with descriptions of birds, hills,...
The view is pleasant in all directions from the Gulf of Trieste, over the karst, to the Julian Alps.
I recommend poles and appropriate footwear.

Along the route: Kal Mlačna (195m)

Maybe this too. On the Žekenc hill, as we locals call it, we enter a deep forest, so in summer be prepared for horseflies and everything that comes with it. I suggest wearing long clothing or using repellents. The local variant is kerosene, which has an excellent effect. Simply apply it to clothing or skin - not on mucous membranes and wounds, but it evaporates quickly. In autumn you can find lots of mushrooms here.

Well, I have another little hill nearby that I haven't been to yet.

Today we went to this hill. Let me tell you that we missed the second turnoff and came to the milestones. From there up the slope, it was quite steep in those grasses to the top.

Sunday Volnik. This time from the other end. From Dutovlje it goes on macadam to the junction, where the path from Pliskovica joins. Continuing steeply was on a slippery trail all the way to the top. Some visitors at the top. We set off after twelve o'clock. And arrived at the starting point just as it started raining. We learned that one can reach it via a path from the village of Voglje, which is almost on the border with Italy. Nice views today. We also found the bench described here.

Used the Sunday dry morning to reach the top of Volnik. Superb view, sea as if in the palm of your hand. Starting point was the village Voglje. Parked in the village center by the chapel. Continued left through the village, past the dual-ownership border crossing (structure from 1966) with open barrier to the nicely renovated "kala na hribi", where there is a picnic area with benches. No signs for Volnik in the village. Above the kala noticed a couple of markings that led us to the Italian markings no. 3. Continue right on the path along the border, which mostly runs on the Italian side. It leads us through varied karst terrain to the junction of the path coming from Pliskovica and Krajna vas. From that junction it's only a couple of minutes to the top. Despite the muddy path, met some hikers and even cyclists.

In the afternoon, Maks and I set off from Pliskovica to Volnik. In the forest, pleasantly calm without wind. At the summit, however, it was quite windy. We didn't meet anyone. I had already somewhat forgotten the junction below the summit and we went all around. We could have taken the shorter path. The views were really nice. In all directions.

Sunday panoramas. Very clear air. Only towards the Julians it was poorly visible. Quite a few hikers. Ticks as well, plenty.
