Planina Smrečica (Poglajnov rovt) - Zgornji Goreljek (Pokljuka)

Access to starting point:
From Bled or Jesenice we drive to Zatrnik, and then we continue driving towards Pokljuka. After Zatrnik we turn onto the first road to the left (i.e. at the road sign between 5.5 km and 6.0 km), and then we drive a few hundred meters to the first major right turn. After the turn a road which descends to the mountain pasture Smrečica branches off to the left, and only a little further we park at a suitable spot by the road.

Route description:
From the starting point, we continue on a macadam road which gently ascends, after a longer left turn, where we also leave the route of the former ski slope Zatrnik, the road stops ascending, and occasionally further it also descends a little. While walking on the road, we then cross the route of the former ski lift Berjanca and a little further the ski slope Berjanca, and a little further a view opens up towards the Karawanks. After the transient panoramic section we reach the marked path Bled (Zaka) - Pokljuka, and we continue right on the cart track to the nearby hunting cottage.
We bypass the hunting cottage on the left side and continue walking on a worse road. When the road turns slightly to the right, we continue straight on the marked cart track, further we follow the blazes and ascend to the former ski slope Zatrnik, where we start descending (if we continue right we can in a minute or two ascend to the top of the ski slope Berjanca, from where a nice view opens up, reaching all the way to Triglav). A shorter descent follows, then we cross the forest road and continue on the marked cart track. The cart track soon splits, and we choose the upper right path, which further ascends through the spruce forest. A few minutes higher we go from the cart track left onto the marked path, which soon starts descending to the northeastern part of Rečiška planina. Walking on Rečiška planina follows, where we pass a few cottages.
On the other side of the mountain pasture the path widens into a road, and from the nearby junction we continue on the right road, from which we soon go left onto the marked path. The path is initially fairly level, then it starts moderately descending and lower reaches another road. To the right a marked path continues, which semicircularly bypasses Grajska planina, in the middle of which after heavier rain there is a nice lake. On the other side of the mountain pasture the road enters the forest, which we quickly leave and continue left on the marked mountain path, which brings us to the edge of Močila bog, along which we continue for quite some time. Since the marked path is already part of the bog in several sections, a parallel footpath has formed slightly to the right. When we leave the area of the peat bog Močila we arrive at the asphalt road Bohinj - Pokljuka, which we follow briefly to the left, then the blazes and signs for Šport hotel direct us right onto the continuation of the mountain path. A longer walk through the forest follows, where at junctions we follow the blazes, and after a while we arrive at the first cottages on Zgornji Goreljek. When a little further we reach the asphalt road we follow it to the right, then we follow the signs for Šport hotel, to which we arrive passing numerous weekend houses, the chapel of St. Anthony the Hermit, the NOB monument and Hotel Jelka.
