Access to starting point:
From Železniki we drive towards Tolmin or vice versa, following the road to the settlement Petrovo Brdo, where we park on the parking lot next to the Planinski dom Petrovo Brdo. The mountain hut is located right next to the crossroads, where the road to Soriška planina branches off.
Route description:
At the crossroads by which we parked, we notice hiking signposts for Porezen, which direct us onto a narrow and ascending road. After a short ascent, we step onto a scenic ridge, from which a view opens up on the chain of Spodnje Bohinjske gore. Higher, the road passes into the forest, where it ascends moderately for some time, then the blazes direct us to the right onto a footpath which ascends on and beside an abandoned cart track. After a few minutes, we return to the road, which we follow only briefly, since the signs for Porezen again lead us into the forest, where we continue the ascent along the forest path. Only a few dozen steps higher we step onto a macadam road, which we only cross, and on the other side of it ascend steeply via stairs. The path ahead passes into a dense forest, where it then ascends moderately to steeply. Following the otherwise marked path is somewhat harder in a few places due to numerous junctions and shortcuts, but there are no major orientation problems. Higher, the path turns somewhat more to the right and also flattens out noticeably. After a few minutes of easy walking we step out of the forest onto a somewhat larger but quite overgrown clearing. We continue on the marked path, which gradually passes into a sparse forest through which it ascends moderately. Higher the forest thins out even more, so that increasingly beautiful views open up on the Spodnje Bohinjske gore. Further, we bypass the indistinct Pohoški kup (1542 m) on the right side, and only a few meters behind its summit we step onto the main ridge of Porezen, whose summit we already clearly see ahead. A few minutes of easy walking follow, and a very scenic path quickly brings us to the Dom Andreja Žvana - Borisa na Poreznu.
Behind the hut we notice signs for the summit of Porezen, which direct us onto an ascending path, along which in a few minutes of diagonal ascent we ascend to the 1630 m high summit.

Why isn't the trip via Davča at the junction to the Jurež farm described!
We were there yesterday, the path is well marked and easy, about 1:30 hours of normal walking.
I recommend it also for families with small children.

What is the current condition of that road leading to the hiking starting point? We were there a couple of years ago, the path was in such a desperate state in the last section and so narrow that I was really scared if we would get through (and we drive quite a bit on forest paths).

This same Sunday on the path from Petrovo Brdo ice first started at an altitude of about 1100 m (slope of Hoča), then rotten snow all the way to the hut. Unfortunately I also don't know how to upload pictures.

Yesterday we went to Porezen. Beautiful path, suitable for families with small children, snow only in front of the hut, it was windy on top, so the tea in the hut which is open on weekends fitted perfectly, as the friendly caretaker Mr. Aleksander told us. Welcome.

We started at the second sign that shows porezen-2 hours, there is a bench and space to park. We walked 2.5 hours, children aged 5,7 and 13 years used to hiking. The first start is a bit steeper-stairs, then the path rises nicely gradually. I recommend the same path. Right at the beginning, when you turn left from the main road there is the village podporezen, you drive along the road, there is already 1 sign porezen, from there it's 2.5 hours, but we shortened and drove to the second sign. Today I was on Porezen, went from Petrovo Brdo, the path is quite okay, neither difficult nor easy, something medium, at the beginning you walk about an hour through the forest (a bit barren) but when you reach the saddle it's great, you walk on grass, to the left Škofjeloško hribovje opens up, to the right Tolminsko, very nice, just need to catch the sun. The hut is already open on weekends, and a beer sits just right.

Today my colleague and I climbed Porezen for the first time. Well-marked path, from the start you have to bite into the hill a bit more through the forest, but the initial effort is quickly rewarded once you break through to the saddle, the view is fantastic! The little schnapps in the hut is also great!

Here I am back in the valley. The weather was excellent. From Porezen I saw the Gulf of Trieste, Triglav, Kamnik Savinja Alps. Better weather for distant views is impossible. If the earth weren't round, you could probably see to Australia. Unfortunately, my batteries ran out of energy 10 minutes before the summit (I managed to photograph the military post before the summit).
I parked at the parking lot in front of the Mountain Hut at Petrovo brdo pass and it took me exactly 1 hour 37 minutes to Porezen. For the return I needed 1 hour 13 minutes. I'm among the faster hikers, so don't plan your time based on mine.
In the mountain hut at Petrovo brdo I asked where to go eat and they recommended continuing 6 km more to the village of SORICA where there is the MACESEN inn. There I treated myself to lunch for 8 EUR (dessert not included, the schnitzel was extremely salty). At the next table a couple was eating pizza and commented that it was good. In the village SORICA the Slovenian painter-impressionist IVAN GROHAR was born and there is also his birth house. They also invite you to go along the marked path that Grohar took to school and back every day.
One more tip; if you want to shorten the walking time, just before Petrovo brdo turn left by car towards PODPOREZEN and drive up the hill about 1 km and park the car at the wooden sign (on the left side), which says POREZEN 2 hours, on the right there are wooden steps leading into the forest. This would probably save 20-30 minutes of walking. There is quite a bit of parking space, so I think you can park near the wooden sign.

I forgot one more thing. Markings are missing in two places, making orientation a bit difficult. Good thing I found a hiker's track in the snow who went to Porezen before me and I followed it. Markings are missing a bit before the top of the ascent, where you reach a small plain, and a bit higher, where there was a clearing and now young spruces are planted. This would be one criticism against the mountaineering association responsible for the markings. The second is that the hut was not open. There were more than 15 hikers at the top, and I met some of them on the way back to the valley. There would probably be even more hikers if the hut was open. It's a shame that you have such a large hut, but it's closed most of the year.

The hut on Porezen is really pleasant, especially in this season. It's really a shame that the hut is not open, which one can still understand, but it's a bit harder that at least the winter room isn't available. On the last ascent it would have been very welcome, as it was snowing with rain and wind was blowing, so we had to retreat lower to the former military buildings. It could serve as shelter also in more important moments - thunderstorm for example, or just to dispel fatigue and rest in shelter. I'm really curious what is the reason that there is no winter room, or it is closed?

Buddy, look under the descriptions of approaches to Porezen. I checked the map and it shows that it's marked right from near the railway station. Similarly from the next station Hudajužna. The access from Hudajužna is described

Yesterday puffing in cloudy and foggy weather towards Porezen. It is really as in the descriptions, the markings are in very poor condition, at some places even a bit incomprehensible, especially for the one who is on the path for the first time. If this is a woman, for whom it is known that they have a slightly worse orientation then even harder to follow. But I still got to the top.

@slamca, in such cases it's really best to always carry the ink pad and pencil with you. On most summits the ink pads are mostly in poor condition, so it's worth heeding my advice.

Yesterday I was on Porezen from Petrovo Brdo. The first part of the trail is snow-free, then it increases and at the top crampons are almost obligatory due to ice and the consequent risk of slipping. Otherwise sun and sun again, view "soul-feeding" in short super, I recommend to everyone who can go up today, wind on the ridge. Hut open and caretakers friendly. Nice morning hike. regards

In summer you can drive by car from Petrovo Brdo to the Podhoč farm where you can park. Some time ago there was farm tourism here. Then continue over Ravan towards Porezen. The path is not demanding, suitable for children used to mountain paths. About 1.5 hours ascent to the top. Plenty of enjoyment.

Due to timber extraction, the trail sometimes does not follow the marked path, but there are no problems, and someone has also marked all the passages. Nice trail for an autumn hike. In the Petrovo Brdo mountain hut, they are as friendly as rarely anywhere else!

Today for the first time to Porezen via this path from Petrovo Brdo. It really says 3h to Porezen there, but don't be scared, me and the dog walked good 2 hours to the top. And we are average hikers, still building fitness.
Pleasant, interesting and well-marked path mostly through shaded forest, the last part opens up and we're quickly at the hut and summit. Despite prolonged rain, no mud on the path. I like the path and will return, really interesting corners above Baška grapa ...
Today there was also the 14th Volf meeting at Robarj with memorial mass and commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the first mention of Petrovo Brdo, so we attended that on the way. Wonderful!
p.s. The mountain hut at Petrovo Brdo remains closed!
