Access to starting point:
A) From Kranjska Gora over the border crossing Rateče we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio. In Trbiž we continue left in the direction of Bovec and we follow the road to the crossroad near the lake Rabeljsko jezero. Here we continue right in the direction of Nevejski preval (Na Žlebeh) / Sella Nevea. When the road already starts descending towards the valley Reklanska dolina, in a sharp left turn, a narrow and steep road towards Montaževa visoka planota / Altopiano del Montasio branches off to the right (by the crossroad there are signs in Italian language). We follow this road to a large marked parking lot, which is situated a few 100 meters before the cheese cottage Pecol (further driving is forbidden).
B) From Bovec, we drive to the border crossing Predel, from which we descend on the Italian side. Only a little after the lake Rabeljsko jezero we come to a crossroad, where we continue left in the direction of Nevejski preval (Na Žlebeh) / Sella Nevea.
Route description:
At the crossroad at the end of the parking lot, we continue right towards the mountain hut "Rifugio di Brazza". We leave the gentle road, which is ascending over mountain pasture Pecol, at the spot where poorly visible blazes point us to the left on a footpath, which we then in a moderate ascent follow to the mountain hut.

We recommend: trips from the same starting point, similar trips, panorama, summit register

Discussion about the trip Pecol - Rifugio di Brazza

Interesting walk for children up to 3 years, disabled etc. Watch out that no mommy with a stroller knocks you over!zavijanje z oemi Well, a little above the hut there are "tons" of marmots. Nice landscape, but the path is nothing for real mountaineers. Unless you go further, e.g. to Montaž, Špik above the slabs...mežikanje

Well, from this comment I got the impression that its author wanted to say that this description doesn't belong on these pages (?). But that certainly doesn't hold for all visitors to this site. I consider myself a "real mountaineer", and I was very happy when I found this description a while ago, as it gave me a good idea - visiting the hut and some more above it, I'll follow up in summer.nasmeh

Maybe I expressed myself a bit too "harshly", but it wasn't meant any other way than as a joke. I don't think at all that this description doesn't belong on these pages, I just wanted to emphasize that it really is an exceptionally easy path, something like to Rožnik. As a standalone trip it's a bit too distant, hence the remark that it's worth continuing the path. I combined it with Mangart and the ascent to Špik hude police and in that context it's quite pleasant.

Dear majdicst!
How many hours of walking is it from Mangart to Špik hude police. I was at Špik hude police last year and this connection to Mangart interests me a lot. I would also need a bit more description of the path. I love this world up here.
Thanks for the reply and greetings! MiR

Well, from Mangart to the parking lot below Rif. Brazza we went by car. On foot it would be senseless, as we would lose the whole day. Any foot connection here would lead over Nevejsko sedlo. Maybe I'll try the crossing from Kanin to here sometime (in my opinion the only possible variant, which requires a steep descent and re-ascent), but the question is whether it makes sense. Unfortunately I can't help otherwise.mrk pogled

Mangart-Špik hude police connection????

Mangart-Špik hude police connection: hut at Mangart saddle - parking lot below Rif. Brazza (CAR!); parking lot - Špik hude police (ca. 2.5 h walking, 900 m elevation gain). From Mangart (hut) on foot only for masochists.jezik

I think we can make a nicer tour by crossing Mangart via Ponca and along Švabec to the lakes. Nice but difficult tour (no water on the way). From koča Brazza we have anyway beautiful outings into the beautiful wild world. Skipping with the car to extend the tour doesn't seem sensible to me. zmeden

Nice half-hour stroll, primarily suitable for preschool children..

Does anyone know if the road to Planina Pecol is already normally passable?
