Passo Falzarego - Croda Negra (path 441 and 422)

Access to starting point:
The path to the starting point is the same as in the description for Col Galina: Cortina d'Ampezzo (you can get here via the border crossing Rateče or Predel to Trbiž / Tarvisio and then on the highway in the direction of Videm / Udine to the Tolmezzo exit. From Tolmezzo we follow the road in the direction of the village Ampezzo and the mountain pass Passo della Mauria. The road then descends and brings us to a crossroad, where we continue left (right also possible) in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. At all next crossroads we follow the signs for Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Or from the Primorska side, where we drive on a highway in the direction of Trst / Trieste. Further we drive on the Italian highway in the direction of Padova, but only to a highway junction, where we continue in the direction of Veneto and Belluno. Near Belluno the highway ends, and at the next crossroads we continue in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo and then we follow the signs for the alpine pass Passo di Falzarego. We then follow this ascending road to a large parking lot on the mentioned pass.
To Cortina d'Ampezzo we can also come from the direction of Austria (direction Karawanks Tunnel, Spittal, Lienz, Sillian, Dobbiacho / Toblach, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Passo Falzarego).

Route description:
On the Passo Falzarego pass the start of the path is well marked. We head towards the south, on path 441 (direction Rifugio Averau and Rifugio Nuvolau). The path gently ascends grassy slopes to a junction where the inscription on the sign (Croda Negra 422) directs us to the right. We continue on an ever-narrower trail up the slope to a ledge, which then crosses to the right (below a smaller wall – caution needed). At the rock with the mark, we turn left into a smaller gully (chimney) and through it to the upper slope. There are very few blazes and those are poorly visible, but there are a lot of cairns which safely lead us to the summit with a wonderful view.
