Parkirišče Muritzen - Source of Mur / Murusprung (via Sticklerhütte)

Access to starting point:
From the motorway Beljak/Villach–Salzburg, take the exit St. Michael im Lungau. Then turn onto the road towards the settlement Hintermuhr. Follow the road along the Mur valley through the settlement Hintermuhr to the parking lot Rotgülden-Arsenhaus. At the gate, pay the road toll of five EUR. Have coins of one or two EUR ready. Drive along the steep narrow asphalted road to the parking lot Muritzen, where we also park.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we follow the macadam road in the direction of Sticklerhütte. After approximately 800 meters we get to the chapel of St. Hubert, where we continue right in the direction of Sticklerhütte. Along the path, we can observe the river Mur and its wild tributaries all the time. After approximately 3.5 km of macadam road we arrive at the mountain hut Sticklerhütte.
To here we walk 1 hour.
We bypass the mountain hut on the left side and continue on a worse macadam road over the river Mur to the livestock fence. Here the road ends. We continue on a well-maintained mountain path. The path all the time leads along the river Mur and several times crosses its tributaries. At the marked junction we follow the direction Murusprung. After approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes we arrive at the source.
