Ortnek - Ortnek Castle

Access to starting point:
From Ljubljana, we drive towards Kočevje, but only to the place Ortnek. Here at the end of the settlement, we turn right, cross the railway track and park by the old gas station.
From Kočevje, we drive towards Ljubljana, but only to the place Ortnek, where we turn left, cross the railway track and then park by the old gas station.

Route description:
Between the abandoned gas station and the railway station, we will notice at the side railway track of the railway line the forest road which goes past the house into the forest. Already after a few meters of ascent we notice the first blazes and a sign which informs us that we are entering the bear area.
The road, which moderately ascends, brings us after 5 minutes of ascent to the first crossroads, where we continue on the right marked road. The road ahead first ascends somewhat more steeply, then flattens and brings us to a marked junction, where we continue sharply left in the direction of Ortnek Castle (straight to Sveti Gregor). From the increasingly worse and steeper road higher up a view opens towards the village Sveti Gregor and the surrounding hills. The road, which in the last part turns more and more towards the left, brings us in a few minutes of additional walking to the spacious summit. Here we will on the left side notice the ruins of the Old Ortnek Castle, on the right a large meadow at the end of which there is the PTV station with a stamp and logbook box.
