Access to starting point:
Leave the Styrian motorway at the Šempeter exit, then follow the signs for Šempeter, Šešče pri Preboldu and Matke. When we arrive in Matke, we continue driving along the Kolja stream to a large meadow, where by the stream we notice signs for Golava and Hom. We park at a suitable place by the road, a slightly larger parking lot is 100 m ahead.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we head to the meadow in the direction of Hom (meadow on the opposite side of the road from the stream, direction east). Across the meadow we ascend diagonally to the left, where we notice a marked path that is not visible across the meadow. The quite overgrown path brings us after 15 minutes of walking to the house, where we continue right on the cart track in the direction of Kamnik. From the cart track, after a few more steps, a marked footpath branches off to the left, which goes past the water catchment into the forest. The moderately steep path then quickly brings us to the climbing crag, after which the path becomes increasingly steep. The steep path then brings us to the vegetated northwestern ridge of Kamnik. We follow this ridge path, from which we occasionally get some views, to the bivouac on Kamnik.

Despite living quite close by, I was yesterday for the first time on Kamnik. The path is extremely steep and fitness is a prerequisite. The mountain is incredible, all rocks, at the top you feel like you're at least 2000 meters higher.
The descent is probably extremely dangerous when wet!

Although there are quite a few poles with directional signs, it seems the trail markers ran out of paint for the blazes, so you have to consult locals several times. The described starting point for the northern trail leads across a meadow where there are no traces of predecessors, and the meadow is fenced with an electric shepherd. Therefore most people go a bit earlier at the junction up the left road, where there is a large parking lot at the pass. Right up the steep road to the last house, where upon my question about continuing, the local pulled a pole with directional signs from the cellar (supposedly broken by the wind) and leaned it against the bushes.

This path is definitely not easy. I recommend appropriate footwear, as the path is steep, the descent (as my predecessors claim) is quite demanding in bad weather!
From the bivouac eastwards there is a path leading to a nice vantage point. Recommended.

09.03.2021 visited the summit. Parked by the asphalt, at the start for Hom, followed the road past houses towards Kamnik, passed the junction for Goljava. Missed the junction for the north path (missing markers that at the water reservoir direct the hiker left into the forest?). The forest cart track thus led me around Kamnik, north-west-south, gentle walking all the way to the marked junction with paths to Mrzlica, Hom etc. From there up along the stream to the saddle, where paths diverge. From there well-marked south path to Kamnik. Nice path, warm from the sun, airy beech forest, varied terrain, quickly to the top. Near the bivouac some scree under the rocks (cave?). All ok at the top. Descended the south side. Also steep, knees 'working', some snow here, cold. The path is also exemplarily marked here and at the end of the path on the exit from the forest I see where I missed the path. But I still didn't find the markers from the starting direction, even though I turned around several times and searched for it. Well, I have to say that the "missed" path around Kamnik actually suited me, for warming up before the ascent. Maybe useful for someone so they don't bite into the slope right away. The mentioned path is clearly visible on the map.

There at the beginning, right after the farm, there really is a missing signpost or marker, but next time there won't be problems.

There are new directional signs at the starting points for Kamnik, the mentioned trail was newly marked today from the parking lot in Zahom. Now there shouldn't be any more problems

Walked the path today, very nicely marked, occasionally the sun shone but gusts of wind on the ridge were very strong
