Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubelj and follow the road ahead towards the border crossing. We leave the main road at the spot where signs for »camp and Podljubelj« point us to the right. When we leave the main road, we will already after a few meters come to a crossroad, where we continue left in the direction of »Kofce«. Further, we drive through the village on a slightly ascending road and then we turn right in the direction of »Matizovec and Kofce«. This occasionally a little more narrow road, which is in the lower part asphalted, we then follow to a larger marked parking lot, about 150 elevation meters below the farm Matizovec.
Route description:
From the large free parking lot we continue on a macadam road, on which in approximately 20 minutes we get to the farm Matizovec.
From Matizovec we continue on a rough road in the direction of Dom na Kofcah, and on some successive crossings, we carefully follow the blazes. After a few minutes of walking on a rough road or cart track, blazes point us on a steep footpath which at first ascends diagonally towards the left and then passes on a forested ridge, where it turns a little to the right. Further, we are ascending on a steep mountain path, which higher crosses a cart track and behind it gradually flattens. Only a little further, forest gets thinner, and marked path turns right in the forest and a little higher joins the cart track which is ascending diagonally towards the right. Cart track higher turns to the left, and from the right joins also the marked path from Kal.
From the crossing ahead forest ends, and more and more scenic path in 5 minutes of additional walking brings us to the mountain hut Dom na Kofcah.

We went to Kofce at the end of July from Dolina, which apparently few choose as a starting point. The lower crowds didn't bother us at all, but the numerous vehicles just below the planina of those who prefer to drive right to the goal did. We were very satisfied with the service and friendliness in the hut, and the ordered portion of schnapps and sour milk was not small either. More about our impressions here.
navrhu22. 02. 2011
8.2.2011 I returned HUNGRY from Dom na Kofcah. STORY: after descending from Veliki vrh I first went to get a beer at the bar in Dom na Kofcah. I drank half a beer and then went into the hut, where I wanted to order food, as I saw no waiters anywhere. I entered the hut. At the door leading from the dining area to the kitchen, there was also an older gentleman who wanted to order food. I asked him if I could order food here and he said he didn't know. Then I looked into the kitchen (where there was a woman and a man at the time; aged about 50-60, preparing food - I don't know if either was the manager). I asked if I could order food here and the man replied that he prefers that orders be placed with the waiter. A minute later, the waiter (male, 30 years old) entered the kitchen through the same door and first the aforementioned older man ordered food from him, then I did. He told us to wait outside, he would bring the food. After 15 minutes of waiting, I saw this older man, who ordered right before me, coming out of the hut with a tray of food. Five minutes later, the same waiter passed my table and I called him, but he just said "SOON" and continued. I replied: "Not soon, I ordered food 20 minutes ago." There was no response, but the waiter went into the hut. After a good 5 minutes, the waiter circled the tables again and I called him again, but this time he didn't even look at me, ignored me and went into the hut. After a total of 35 minutes of waiting, I decided to wait for lunch until home and went home.

This is my fresh experience, which in my opinion shows that the manager is not capable of running the mentioned hut. The excuse will be that there were many guests, but here the manager must demonstrate foresight and quick reaction in such cases. Also, the manager should be more proactive in staff selection and control thereof.

I hope this entry will help improve operations at the hut, which has a great location otherwise.

Otherwise, everything was fine with my ascent. Excellent, sunny weather, very little wind. Recommended for families, as part of the family can stay at the hut, the more capable part can continue to Veliki vrh and back.
VanSims22. 02. 2011
Almost identical experience to mine from Dom na Gospodični. Now you can expect a fierce attack, insinuations and mockery from regular guests who will defend their beloved manager like a lynx - while mountain huts and homes are increasingly turning into second-class taverns occupied by local drunks and motorized Sunday tourists.
navrhu22. 02. 2011
I wanted to send the story to PZS too, but you can write to them via their website only if you register on their site. Nonsense.

When I filled out the contact form on the PD Tržič website, owner of the hut, something jammed, then the computer wrote something like the system did not accept my message. As if these organizations are afraid of the truth.
minca2323. 02. 2011
I have to add my experience too: I was also at Kofce on February 8th and had a similarly bad experience. I often go to Košuta and stop at the hut, but now it's really strange up there. I ordered štruklji and waited 40 minutes for them, while at the neighboring tables those who arrived and ordered much later were already "stuffing themselves"... It's a real mess, they somehow don't manage! Hm, that's really not praiseworthy for our mountainsmrk pogled. Best regards, Minca
štruklji23. 02. 2011
A mountain greeting!
I'm not a regular guest at Kofce but I have positive experiences, especially enthusiastic about their delicious štruklji! And one portion is a proper bite for an adult, that's why I go a bit into the hill, to sweat, to get a good feeling, then at the top štrukelj and the hike is perfect.
The price is comparable to other mountain huts! The food is REALLY tasty.

So, if you're heading to Kofce I recommend stopping there, patiently wait for lunch and drink with good cheer and I'm sure your good mood will return!http://www.hribi.net/slike/smile.gif
Kofce23. 02. 2011
Hello Mr. Navrhu! First of all, we of course respect your criticism, but to what you've described we can add that this gentleman who ordered food before you waited for it where he ordered it, a few minutes later I brought your ordered single dish out, looked for the customer, shouted out who ordered it, but no one responded zmeden ! So I returned it to the kitchen!
Ms. Minca, just a note for you that you should know that štruklji need their time for preparation, like other already prepared food! (In the rush as it was on that nice day, štruklji are prepared in the order as recorded in the computer nasmeh ) That's why others might get their dish earlier!

Everyone interprets their story anyway nasmeh people are fortunately different nasmeh we apologize again for the bad experience caused to all of you, and wish everyone luck and above all safe steps!! nasmeh

P.S.: PD and PZS can receive both criticism and praise also via E-mail published on their website...

Nice mountain greeting nasmeh
navrhu24. 02. 2011
KOFCE, don't tell me that minca23 was also invisible. And what will you say to my call, to which you responded IMMEDIATELY and that was all from you. At the next call you didn't even want to turn around. Waste of words.
ŠTRUKLJI; I didn't criticize the taste of the food, but the serving staff and the caretaker.
Kofce24. 02. 2011
...and what will you say to the fact that I brought the ordered single dish and the customer didn't respond??? Nothing speaks of Minca being invisible nasmeh...

We wish you a nice day and plenty of summits conquered!
šoja24. 02. 2011
Sir "Navrhu" I have the feeling that you want to revenge the Kofce caretaker in every way. Look at the other side too - people are trying, as far as I know, the same caretaker has been at Kofce for years and was always praised, but sometimes it just doesn't work - as they say IT BLOCKS - due to too many people. What bothered me most was when you mentioned incompetent organization - that day there were huge crowds everywhere, in the hills, at Bled, in Bohinj, at the sea...., and probably even in the valley at Bled people waited quite a while for their kremšnita. If the waiter didn't register you, he surely had a head full of unprocessed orders, you know, he's just human too. In such a rush the huts are simply too small for so many hungry mouths, or rather their kitchens, so better not judge because you probably don't know the situation. I'm not saying you should have "felt good" because of the situation, but know that maybe your approach wasn't right either. If you had gone to the kitchen and told this story to the caretaker, I believe he would have given you food right away and even a shot on top. Some of you are like that, inflating every bad situation and enjoying slandering someone without thinking that you're not 100% either. But I believe that the vast majority of people, real hikers, will gladly visit our huts and understand that in such a rush as then, you can't get food in five minutes. No hard feelings, I'll come to Kofce again!!!!!
JORDAN24. 02. 2011
While reading all these comments I got the feeling that you go to the mountains just to eat and complain (too small portions, too expensive etc.) and bring impatience and intolerance from the cities to the hills. We probably all go to the mountains for relaxation, beautiful nature, to forget the hustle of city life, in short enjoyment. Let's leave impatience in the cities, in the mountains let's take time and spare them that. On Prešeren Day there was very nice weather, so everywhere was full of people (I was at Velika Planina where there were huge crowds and they also had to wait at the huts for ordered food). If someone doesn't like the expected crowds in the mountains, then on such nice days let them pop into the nearest inn for dining and order food there, of course first they have to get a free table.lp
pelican24. 02. 2011
Jordan - well said!
minca2324. 02. 2011
I'm sorry I remarked anything, because the polemic turned out so unpleasantly. I think such communication is not praiseworthy for nature lovers, so it's better that this writing, nagging, ends. I think they tried at Kofce despite everything. I will DEFINITELY go up again, because the mountains and highland are for me something special. Hey, and I'll surely eat štruklji again too...nasmehmežikanje Keep going cheerfully to the hills and safe steps to all, Minca
pohodnik0124. 02. 2011
That's balls! We go to the mountains for recreation, nature, beauty of our highlands. Those who want to eat and be served quickly should bring a sandwich or goulash in a mess kit. What bothers us more is the littering caused by individuals in the mountains (various bottles thrown into nature and ...). Otherwise it's nice at Kofce and you get plenty to eat and drink and the caretaker is friendly too. Best regards
VanSims24. 02. 2011
I don't know Kofce but in general, here's what Mr. JORDAN and pohodnik1 say:

Crowds don't bother me at all. If it's too crowded, I'll just leave. If I'm too hungry, I'll put up with the waiting.

High prices don't bother me either. I'm in the habit of checking prices before ordering anything, and if it's too expensive, I order something else; if there's no suitable alternative, I have the guts to politely refuse the waiter, stand up, and leave. We're in capitalism, and everyone can set prices as high as they want, but the consumer can also decide whether to buy or not.

Food quality in our huts is generally quite high, and I haven't had a bad meal yet.

What's more important than all that is the attitude towards visitors. It's generally good, but sometimes it falters.

OK, crowds are fine. But for a group of people (who are on first-name terms with the waiter) to order behind you and they're already paying while the waiter at your table hasn't even cleared the smelly remnants from previous guests, let alone brought your order, that's rude (example Dom na Gospodičini).

Or when you're alone in the dining room and there's a group of local drunks in the corner around whom the waitress constantly buzzes, but ignores you until you go to the counter and order specifically (example Koča na Šmohorju).

Not to mention unfriendliness, not displaying price lists, and not giving receipts as if huts are exceptions (you involuntarily get the feeling you've been ripped off),... I won't even talk about it.

What bothers us is the Balkan attitude towards guests, not just waiting, high prices, bad food, or unfriendliness (it happens that someone has a bad day).

Sometimes I drop into a hut and no, I don't want to be a spoiled gentleman, but at least treated like a human. I don't demand excessive friendliness, but at least fair treatment and clean bills.

Why doesn't this happen to me abroad? I hike foreign mountains just as much as domestic ones? Let one of you smart ones explain that.

I've learned that in such cases you have to bang on the table and be tough (diplomatically, of course), which you have every right to when treated unfairly. If service is too slow, you really go to the kitchen (as šoja suggests) or to the manager. If there's no price list, ask the waiter. Don't pay until you get a receipt...

Complaining on forums, PZS,... is pointless if you can't stand up for yourself.

I expect comments like: what audacity!!!
serajko24. 02. 2011
hi
VanSims I think you've got another bone to pick. I'm not a regular at Kofce, but I still have no bad experiences. I stick to the rule that kind words help. And one shouldn't rush anywhere. During a rush of visitors, there's always too little staff, and too many novices!!!zmeden
aleš4324. 02. 2011
I'm going to check this out in Kofce this weekend. (Saturday)
štruklji27. 02. 2011
Today at Kofce initially pleasantly sunny, later some clouds that covered the sun! Path nicely walkable!
And don't forget, the ŠTRUKLJI excellent! Staff smiling and obliging!
We were also in good spirits, smiling, ready for anything!
We'll return to Kofce!
mohikanec28. 02. 2011
We were at Kofce on Saturday, there really wasn't
a crowd, there was super jota, ričet, žganci and of course the highly praised štruklji. The staff was
friendly and there's really nothing to complain about, and we've visited Kofce many times before, and we will again.
Hribovc881. 03. 2011

Very sad that you even allow such minor inconveniences (waiting a bit longer etc.) to spoil such a nice hike... mrk pogled
VanSims2. 03. 2011
I have the feeling that on this portal some just skim the comment and then reply right away.

True, I wrote a bit more but the point still wasn't that the waiting was annoying.

Read carefully and think about what the author wanted to say then write a response. It will be fine, right? mežikanje
dragica.gnjezda@gmail.com2. 03. 2011
the main point is that Kofce didn't stick to the order. that's all there is to it. otherwise it doesn't matter where and why we wait. disregarding the sequence raises everyone's "lid". we forgive only good friends.
Planinc743. 03. 2011
Lady Dragica, it looks like you didn't read everything in detail either!
I was with my family that day on Kofce, true I waited a couple minutes longer for lunch than usual that day, but it didn't bother me because I respect all those people who were working, hats off to them, as the crowd then was really exceptionally large!!
Hats off to them, since they are just people too! Everyone who's ever dealt with hospitality and people understands this at least approximately!! Everyone else just knows how to criticize it, that's not okay zmeden I'll return there, as this place is something of the most beautiful... But I wish you to clean in front of your own doorstep first, then criticize others! Safe steps to all mežikanje
dragica.gnjezda@gmail.com3. 03. 2011
I read and figured out the essence. if "navrhu" had been served before those who ordered after him, his post wouldn't be on the forum. and if "kofce" had said yes I really made a mistake, there wouldn't be such polemics either. consistency, dear planinc74, consistency, to yourself and to others. when you're consistent to yourself, you're also to others. constructive criticism is always welcome to me.
otherwise Kofce are also nice to me and I have no bad experiences.
and also this: I'd be happier without the formal addressing and lady. I'm for openness and simplicity.
so, let's enjoy - our beloved nature. young ones even more. haha...
Planinc743. 03. 2011
...as I see it, not all the blame is on the waiter, as 'navrhu' described the gentleman who ordered food before him got it before him, while he waited, it wasn't about the order here! Hmm where was that gentleman when the waiter had his food ready and was looking for him outside just a few minutes after that gentleman??? That's where it all gets tangled mežikanje ...let's be fair to everyone, right mežikanje ...if they had sorted it out on the spot with the caretaker or someone else, none of these stories would be written here, but some find it hard to face it in person, preferring to resolve it via nicknames on forums nasmeh
And why should we worry about it, since we've been satisfied so far... nasmeh mežikanje nasmeh
dragica.gnjezda@gmail.com3. 03. 2011
looking, looking, but can't find it...zmeden I could swear I read that some ordered later and got served first. Did I mix something up while skimming all the texts? I apologize. Hardly do you turn around and you yourself make a mistake.
To the mountains, mountains, so my heart sings again.velik nasmeh
Irina4. 03. 2011
What do people worry about in the mountains.....I think most go there for nature...less for catering capacities.

The fastest....so to speak - right away you are served from your own backpack, everything is good and everything runs smoothly because it's your choice.
markokomarko11. 03. 2011
"Unfriendly waiter" Today I was with my wife at the Dom na Kofcah, which was officially closed, but the caretaker-waiter had just arrived from the valley. When I asked about štruklji, he kindly explained that the hut is closed during the week, but a few moments later he came to the bench in front of the hut behind me and offered to prepare štruklji anyway if we were willing to wait about 20 minutes. And he brought them, very good ones.

I think we should not model ourselves after our quarrelsome politicians and must be patient even if something doesn't please us. And the old proverb "A kind word finds a kind place (or something similar)" holds completely true.

About the path: most of the way from Matizovec is quite awkwardly icy. The friendly caretaker suggested for the return a path along the forest road - first towards Jelendol, when the slope levels out and the road turns left, one must turn sharply right (almost 180 degrees) and then gently along the cart track to the wooden shelter almost right at the farm. Much better than the icy slope, but it will probably be quite muddy when the snow finally melts.

Once again - I don't believe the caretaker was unfriendly, on the contrary, he is very friendly!
slavko26. 10. 2012
Yesterday at Kofce a real autumn fairy tale, below a sea of fog, above paradise. The hut was officially not open (of course the teletext said Open), but the man, probably the caretaker, who brought drinks from the valley kindly served tea and a short one. Likewise other hikers as long as he was at the hut. Was even my first time at Kofce, I'll come again.
ljubitelj gora17. 11. 2013
New parking lot is lower, it takes 15-30 minutes more walking.
The sign says this:
http://shrani.si/f/2h/13O/2W7i4rpu/img0742.jpg
viharnik17. 11. 2013
If following the intermediate shortcut through the bushes to Matizovec, the path is even shorter - directionally straightened to Kofce.
traceour22. 11. 2013
Ah how much longer it is.. 8 minutes to warm up then another 30 to the hut..
ljubitelj gora22. 11. 2013
Twice you go via the shortcut, which is marked, the parking lot is at about 900m altitude. And something in Podljubelj can't turn back towards Tržič (but can towards Ljubelj), you need to continue by car along the side road to the visible bridge, over it and left onto the main road. Picture:
http://shrani.si/f/Z/Xq/4ZqF1bZY/matizovec.jpg
smatjaz22. 11. 2013
lg, great description, I also looked where to get to the road, then I decided for the path through Dolžanova soteska, it seemed easier to find.
What the farmers of Matizovec and Zajmen have done: http://shrani.si/f/2h/13O/2W7i4rpu/img0742.jpg
is simply fantastic! All owners of plots around the starting points for hikes should see this, because except for a few exceptions the hiker who is there for the first time confusedly looks for a place to leave his car and leaves it on the farmer's driveway where it's less suitable, and there aren't many signs, so such a gesture would help a lot and also remove the reason for displeasure. (applies to hikes where there are no organized and marked parking lots)wink
velkavrh22. 03. 2014
Today for the third time this winter, but this winter we haven't managed to reach Veliki vrh. Today also cloudy, foggy and at the hut on Kofcah it was lightly snowing, so there was nothing with Veliki vrh. We arrived at the hut at the same time as the caretakers, who drove to the hut with snowmobiles and kindly served us coffee and tea right away. The fire also crackled in the stove right away. The young caretakers are really friendly - very commendable.
skalar504. 08. 2014
well... what the famously tasty štruklji were like yesterday, Sunday, unfortunately I don't know...
we with the group stopped by a little after 3 pm, after 8 hours of delightful wandering over the peaks of Košuta...

they had run out not only of štruklji, schnapps, sour milk, but all food! I really had a hard time explaining to my acquaintance from abroad why we didn't save a sandwich from the top...

Hi,
I'm looking for a family that was on Kofce today with a black dog. Dad had a gray beard, mom was a blonde with a black jacket, daughter was dark-haired, with a red jacket, black hat and gray sneakers. I'm looking for them because I'd like to keep contact. nasmeh
I know this search is futile, but if they read this please contact me at zs.

Regarding past comments I was interested in what the service is like. I have to admit I'm impressed. Very friendly waitress and phenomenal struklji, fast service, reasonable price. Just a few minor details and nothing bad. Bravo.
anazala11. 07. 2021 09:21:35
First time at Kofce. Beautiful alpine pasture. Nice view. Friendly staff at the hut. You can extend the path to Veliki vrh, to Kladivo, to Kofce gora, and more.
karibu5. 09. 2021 22:15:13
Warning to all who walk this path to Kofce. Today 5.9.2021 around 12:30, rangers issued fines to everyone who did not park at the parking lot. Due to crowding, the parking lot was full and visitors parked higher and lower along the road.
We all got a 40€ fine for the offense.
Best regards and safe journey!
bostjanc30. 04. 2023 17:32:41
Just a warning to everyone, as no one has written yet that the parking lot remains paid and is behind the barrier. Daily parking is 4 EUR. I strongly hope the funds go towards road renovation as it is really worn out.
ppegan1. 05. 2023 22:28:57
Bostjanc, it's not written here, but under Conditions Kofce. And probably elsewhere too, just need to search a bit mežikanje Just check. There are still many other starting points where parking is free, so no panic jezik
Razočarani16. 10. 2023 07:26:12
Hello,

the parking lot is really expensive, as 4 EUR is not little. In addition, the parking meter does not return cash. You must first press the button, only then insert the coins, otherwise it doesn't detect them nor return them. I made that mistake myself. And then for a 3-hour hike you pay 8 EURnasmeh

In addition, there are two different huts at the top and two different catering providers. Too many people, waiters nervous, no one knows where the cash desk is, where the kitchen is, chaos.

They are lucky that the nature is wonderful.

At Kofce in summer. Lots of people, barely got a spot for the table. Nevertheless, the waitress came right away, took the order, and had the drinks on the table in a minute. Also got the štruklji very quickly... they were excellent. In short, 5 or 6 young girls took care of all the guests. Excellent organization, normal prices.

Nice day, start from the parking lot under the farm, nice, well-maintained parking lot, parking fee for the whole day 4 eur, can be paid with coins, card. Continuation on the nicely marked path. It depends on the individual, the path is generally not difficult, but it's good to have some similar paths behind you, the ascent is not innocent, rocky path and roots too. But it's incredibly beautiful, peace, the forest smells especially nice, and there was no crowd. The hut is closed, but no problem, you can sit, have a little snack, drink something (of course from the backpack), enjoy the beauties and return to the starting point with the goal achieved. Today we were accompanied by fog - wonderful fog that occasionally allowed a view through. Struklji next time nasmeh.
