Mala Lazna - Mrzovec (by road)

Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Lokve (to here from Nova Gorica or Most na Soči), and then we continue driving in the direction of Predmeja. When we come to a larger meadow, where at the crossroads we notice numerous signposts, we are on Mala Lazna.
Access from Predmeja is also possible.

Route description:
From Mala Lazna we head onto a gently sloping cart track which continues parallel with the road which leads towards Predmeja. After a few minutes of easy walking we arrive at the southwest edge of Mala Lazna, where there is a larger number of tables and benches. Here we notice the beginning of the forest path, on which we quickly ascend to the nearby forest road which we then follow to the right. Only a few meters ahead we come to an information board, which marks the beginning of the natural monument Smrečje. We continue on the macadam road, which after a short descent brings us to a nice grassy plain named Avška Lazna. Here the road flattens and further leads through extensive mostly spruce forests. A little further, at Turkovi Frati, we join a wider and partly asphalted road which comes from Gospodovih senožet. We follow the mentioned road to the right, and it soon becomes asphalted and starts to ascend more steeply. Higher up we come to the saddle Prevala, where a forest road branches off to the left, which is closed to public traffic. We continue on the asphalt road for a few more meters, then, when it starts to descend, we notice on the right side another forest road and next to it a green barrier. We head onto the mentioned road which starts moderately ascending through the forest, meanwhile through the treetops some views open up towards the sea. A little further we come to a smaller intersection, where we continue on the right ascending road, which after a few short zigzags gradually flattens and brings us to the next intersection. This time we continue slightly left and proceed along the gently sloping road which leads towards the foot of Petelinovec (1362 m). Here the road, which starts ascending again, first turns right, then gradually turns more and more to the left. Higher up we cross a panoramic slope, the road then turns right, where after a short diagonal ascent it brings us to the saddle between the already mentioned Petelinovec and Mrzovec. We continue on the road which approaches Mrzovec, then it turns right and changes into an increasingly grassy and overgrown cart track. The cart track gradually turns to the left, so that we almost circle the summit. When we are already on the north side of the summit a marked path from the village Lokve joins us, and we continue on the cart track for a while longer. Only some 10 m further the cart track ends, and we continue slightly left on the marked footpath, on which in 5 minutes of additional walking we ascend to the summit of Mrzovec.
