Access to starting point:
From Logatec we drive towards Idrija or vice versa. In the village Godovič we turn left (from Logatec side, from Idrija right) in the direction of Črni vrh and Col. We follow this road to the turn-off for the village Lome (ski slope Javornik), which is situated 500 meters before the village Črni vrh. Here we turn left and the road soon brings us to the next crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of Gornjih Lom (straight Spodnje Lome). We further follow the road to the parking lot at the ski center Javornik.
From the Primorska side we drive to Ajdovščina from where we continue towards Col and Črni vrh. 500 meters after the village Črni vrh the road branches off to the right towards the village Lome. Further, follow the above description.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue past the last house in the village on a marked cart track which ascends diagonally over part of the ski slope. The cart track then goes into the forest, where it moderately ascends. During the ascent on the right side we notice an artificial lake intended for snowmaking. After that the cart track makes a sharp left turn and a little higher joins the forest road, which we follow to the left. After a few steps of walking, we leave the road and go right on a steep path in the direction of Javornik. The very steep path soon brings us to a cart track near the midway station of the two-seater chairlift. Here we continue right and follow the cart track, which has quite a few crossings. All crossings are well marked so that there are no problems with orientation. A little further we join a wide cart track which comes from Črni vrh.
We continue left and in a gentle ascent after a few minutes we get to the Pirnatova koča on Javornik.

Discussion about the trip Lome - Pirnatova koča na Javorniku

The trail is beautiful and well marked, suitable in all seasons. I would only complain about the "principledness" of the caretaker of Pirnatova koča. On our question whether he would let us in with the dog, he said he'd rather not (which he of course has every right to), but just a few minutes later he had no objections to a dog of exactly the same size and even breed! So much for friendliness!

Mr. Jerry, as far as I know, there is a sign at the entrance to the hut that dogs are not "welcome" in the hut. Every mountaineer could be so fair to others that he wouldn't even think about the possibility of bringing his four-legged friend inside. Or did you perhaps think that this caretaker has nothing else to do but constantly check who or "what" enters through the door? Perhaps it will be necessary to decide whether the hut is intended for dogs or people.?! No hard feelings, because the mountaineering spirit blows in us!! krena

Dogs used to be house guards, now some people drag dogs everywhere with them, and dogs in the mountains get on many of our nerves. In mountain huts where food is served, dogs have no business being there at all. All the best to the hut keeper, my friend and I stayed overnight and refreshed well in October. But it's hard to be friendly to someone who drives dogs into the hut without asking you first if it's allowed.

Well today at Javornik there was neither a hut keeper nor dogs so it's a nice idyll and a lot of snow. I recommend snowshoes. DOGS ARE THE LAW I HAVE A DOG DOGS ON A LEASH AND SINCE THEY DON'T HAVE ENTRY TO THE HUT WE JUST BRING A CHAIR OUT TALK WITH THE FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND AND BACK TO THE VALLEY. Good luck

Sunday 15.1.2012. This path is the shady side of Javornik and is currently in snow and frozen. Even though it was sunny and warm all day, on some sections during the ascent it is recommended to put on microspikes, especially on the steep parts of the path. Let me mention that the path is well marked. Today there was quite a crowd in the hut, so those who wanted to be served needed a bit more patience. To the top where the tower is about 10 min, but there is no stamp there. You get the SPP stamp and summit stamp in the hut. The Javornik ski slope is operating, but only the lower part. In general, a nice Sunday trip .

It's true that dogs, according to some, don't belong in huts or mountains but dogs are much smaller polluters and leave much less mess behind than some hikers! lp

One stamp is in front of the hut door, the summit stamp on the tower. We today quite seriously missed the turn where the path branches right towards the middle station. The views into the valley on the left captivated us so much that we continued straight there, reached Škvarčeva domačija, from there through the forest to the ski hut. There we luckily saw the tower, so at least we found the right direction. Well after crossing the specifically overgrown former path, we finally reached the marked path again... scratched and dotted, but still happy

Dogs are not allowed to enter the hut, but they can save our lives in the mountains. Right? Humans are really grateful beings.

I see that in some comments you've criticized the hut keeper. I think it changed about 5 years ago, and no one can say a bad word about the current one. The whole family is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Food in the hut is excellent, so I recommend stopping for a one-pot dish or sausages sometime. I've never noticed a no-dogs sign, so my dog always goes with me into the hut and no one complains. I'll be more attentive in the future though, as probably not everyone likes it. LP

The path is now well marked, but on some sections the marked path is also used by downhill cyclists along with hikers. The area is indeed crisscrossed with various cycling paths. Most sections are arranged separately, but not all. Our experience was that the cyclists were very considerate. Still, such an arrangement is unpleasant for both groups and should be arranged differently and well marked. The caretakers otherwise very friendly, food excellent.
