Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Maribor we take the exit Žalec and then drive towards Arja vas. At the crossroad at the end of the village, we continue straight in the direction of Liboje. Soon after the sign that marks the end of the village Liboje we will notice by the road a mountain signpost for Liboje. We then drive another few hundred meters to a smaller parking lot by the road, where the footpath to Šmohor and Malič begins. The beginning of the footpath is not marked (if we drove to the water source Ramšak, we are already too far).
Route description:
From the starting point, we turn left onto a footpath that moderately ascends through a meadow. After a few minutes of the ascent, the path crosses the macadam road, where we for the first time notice a mountain signpost for Šmohor. The path then ascends to the top of a meadow, after which the path goes into the forest and after an additional few minutes of walking brings us to a forest road, where we continue straight upwards in the direction of Šmohor. The path, which still runs through the forest, is becoming increasingly steep. After a good half an hour of walking, the steepness decreases and the path brings us to a cart track. From the cart track soon signs for Šmohor point us to the left onto the path, which after the next short ascent brings us to the forest road, where we continue right towards Šmohor. After a few meters of a light descent, a marked footpath branches off to the left to Malič. Here as well, we continue right, at first on the road, and then on a footpath which quickly brings us to the mountain hut on Šmohor.

Discussion about the trip Liboje - Dom na Šmohorju
frenki13. 04. 2011
At the end of Liboje you don't know where or how long you still drive. Before the starting point for Šmohor there are two more parking lots and you don't know where or what. Markings could be from Liboje onwards or at least it could say how many km to the parking lot. We struggled a lot before we found it. When we reached the top of this first hill on the plain, the markings are very frequent where they are not needed at all since you can't go astray, because there's only one path. In short, criticism for the markings.

Dom na Šmohorju awaits renovation

I am a regular hiker to Šmohor and satisfied with the entire hospitality offer here. I was surprised by the call for a new tenant. Perhaps it's just a mistake that they should replace the home manager Jožeta Rajha and someone else. The hikers' leadership should rather sit down together and seek financial funds or sponsors for the home's renovation. Replacement of all windows on the home is needed, as they are worn out, and perhaps more. That's why the Laški planinci hold their annual general assembly and perhaps some other meeting preferably in Marija Gradec, because it's more comfortable and warmer there. They forget Šmohor though, and it stands deserted. If this were arranged and the home renovated, hikers would find a common goal and satisfaction in fellowship. Š.M.

After lunch, with the youngest, we walked to the Dom na Šmohorju and since the sun was still high, we extended the walk to the nearby Tolsto. The path is nicely marked, only the wind was very strong on the top today.

does anyone know how long the path to Šmohor from Brnica takes and if it is so well marked that you can't get lostnasmeh

From Brnica there is a path to Šmohor past Slomnik (or through). In both cases no more than 1.5 to 2 hours walk. Both paths are marked, but the one over the top of Slomnik is more scenic (Libojske stene) and therefore more recommended.nasmeh

I also had trouble when I first looked for parking for the ascent to Šmohor. The easiest way to orient is to leave the car at the parking lot used by climbers (Kotečnik) - the parking is a little over 1 km from Liboje, on the right side. Then walk and watch for markers on the meadow (on the left side of the road, as already well described) and climb up the meadow, on the trail through the forest.

For those for whom the steep marked hiking path is not the closest, you have 2 other - gentler - options. The junction is marked on picture no. 5.

After crossing the gravel road, you can continue along this road, which is very flat and circles the hill on the left side, then joins the hiking path coming from Debra (near Laško). It takes a bit longer, but is therefore less demanding.
The 2nd option is to follow the "trail" that turns right from the marked path after crossing the gravel road, which circles the hill on the right side. The path is not marked, but leads you just below the mountain hut on Šmohor. It is slightly more demanding than the previously described one, but my favorite.

I'm curious what a really difficult path looks like if this is an easy marked path. The path described above is veryyyyy strenuous.

bruny5. 07. 2014
Well I'm not exactly an expert... but difficulty or strenuousness are two different concepts, of course sometimes related. Difficulty is the domain of "technicalities" - technical structures of the path while strenuousness is the domain of personal "fitness". - condition. Paths are always somewhere and "in between" there is a large space from demanding/strenuous....to undemanding/unstrenuous. I don't know the path personally but there are dozens, if not hundreds, of such zasavsko/posavskih paths in the world... This path is certainly technically undemanding, but an individual's fitness can make it strenuous, perhaps even very strenuous... Regards

Based on the above comments, in these rainy days I choose a trip to Šmohor so I don't fall completely out of condition :P
The feat does not disappoint - despite changeable weather the path rises pleasantly (up up up and awaaay), the last few meters are practically flat. On the way back I also went to Malič. When I sat in the car and drove off, it started raining nasmeh

Possibly to help those looking for the starting point - park at the first parking lot after the bridge past the 1.5km road sign on the right and then climb through the meadow on the left. On the right side of the meadow (looking uphill) a cart track rises, but it doesn't matter where you go up, as long as you reach the top of the meadow, where the markers then start. Still, don't annoy the locals.

So, today we headed to Šmohor via this path. Since they were looking for parking and a hiking sign that simply wasn't there, I decided to write how to find the path start. 1.7km past the end of Liboje sign on the left side of the road is a red sign for Šmohor and Malič. Turn left onto the gravel road which takes us in less than 100m to a small parking lot, from where we start the ascent. Either straight on the trail (picture 2) or past the farm. Either way.

The author of this description described the starting point very poorly, as if saying that a 0.5 liter can contains 0.1 dcl of beer mežikanje
In short, after the end of the Liboje sign, there is still 900m - 1 km to the starting point, not roughly 100m as written in the description, in short drive further along the road until you spot the directional sign for Šmohor on the left side of the road, it is very visible, a bit before that sign park on the right side.
The path is also strangely marked, if you don't look carefully left and right in places, you miss the path.

If you have the option, go from Laško, the path is excellently marked, the starting point is found right away mežikanje

We two went from Liboje. We searched for the path for a very long time, because instead of 100 m from Liboje it's actually much farther. And there was fog too. We weren't the only ones looking for the path. We went along the macadam road since there's no sign for Šmohor anywhere, luckily there are houses along the way so we asked for directions. No signs anywhere. Some narrow paths on the left side, you don't know where they'll lead. So you just walk blindly. And the signs are also higher up so you can easily miss the path. But when you reach the plain to the houses in Debra, the signs are frequent. Anyway, for marking and path description pure minus. I think it wouldn't cost much to mark the path at the beginning, like elsewhere. If not, then don't describe this path, and you'll go blindly off-path, hm as it is now.
Locals might know where and how, but for foreigners the path is a real quiz. Next time we'll go from Laško.
BUT otherwise for the hut at Šmohor: friendliness of staff, good food, prices not exaggerated, homeliness as befits mountain huts. Pure ten.
