Access to starting point:
We enter Croatia via the Rogatec / Hum na Sutli border crossing. From Hum na Sutli continue towards the settlements Pregrada and Zabok, but drive only to the end of Kostel village, where at the crossroads turn sharply right (the junction is less visible; at the crossroads there is a monument and a spring). The trail officially starts here, but since there is no suitable parking spot, proceed uphill beside the chapel of the Suffering Jesus all the way to the church of St. Mirko, where we park next to the cemetery.
Route description:
At the cemetery in Kostel village we notice signs for Kostelgrad, directing us onto a narrow road uphill (orientation is easy as Kostelgrad is visible from the start).
The road enters the forest and after a few minutes of walking we reach a sharp left bend. A few minutes of gentle ascent follow to a junction below the castle.
Castle ruins are ahead, but we go sharply right, aided by a signpost.
After some turns the path leaves the forest for vineyards.
Beyond the vineyards we reach a saddle between two peaks of Kuna gora. Go left southwards, following markers; to the highest farm we return to the forest.
The path ahead is initially quite steep, but the gradient gradually eases higher up. The forest thins out higher, and a bit higher we reach a clearing. From here follow the path a few more minutes to the summit of Kuna gora. There is a summit register, no views.
