Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Kočevje, and then we look for Podgorska ulica (which from the main road branches off to the right - direction of driving towards Delnice). At the end of the mentioned street we will notice signposts and by them a nicely arranged parking lot.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we walk to a well-marked junction, and then we continue right in the direction of Kalanova pot (left Grajska pot). The marked path, which at first runs on the road, soon leaves it and continues left through the forest. Further, we ascend on the path on which the steepness increases, and it crosses a forest road a few times. Higher, the steepness decreases and the path joins the forest road on which we continue the ascent. The road soon starts descending and in a few steps brings us to a marked junction, where we continue straight in the direction of the cottage Koča pri Jelenovem studencu (left - Mestni vrh, right - Ledenik).
From the junction to the cottage we have only a few minutes of easy walking.

Today we headed to the hut. The weather was on our side, sunny, though the air was a bit chilly. The Kalanova path was wet, but it was nice to walk. Unfortunately, we left our hiking boots at home and went in Adidas sneakers - a mistake. We thought, it's low and we won't need good footwear, but it seems you have to take care of your health even at lower locations and wear hiking boots or good hiking shoes. Interesting and fairly steep path. No obstacle for younger visitors who happily climb the hill without problems. We met a father with two children and full praise for the care, constant attention to the children and above all an example to many on how children should behave on the path and at the hut. At the hut, we found a bench next to it where the sun was shining, warming us at the same time. Very friendly hut keeper who takes time for a short pleasant chat and quick service. Since he was just serving already prepared lunch, he apologized that the drinks would take a little while, but not even 2 minutes passed and we got our order. It's normal for drinks to wait, but served lunch can cool quickly and needs to be served fast, and we weren't in a hurry anyway. Still, we sorted it all in a pleasant tone with some joking words, said goodbye after a short break in good spirits. Prices compared to other huts very reasonable. We didn't order food because we planned to eat elsewhere, and it was too early for a meal. I recommend the trip to all generations, road access possible, in front of the hut beautiful grassy area and tables in the sun or under the trees in the shade.
Just briefly. We stopped at the Harlekin inn and pizzeria in Ribnica. Again friendly even though all tables were full of waiting or already eating customers, quick and solid service, plenty of food even for the backpack, reasonable prices. So we got a really good impression of Kočevje people. Pictures of the path to the hut and the hut are already in the photo section and I'll attach them when I resize them so as not to spoil the website format. Very pleasant and beautiful Sunday!
