Access to starting point:
We drive to Luče (to here from Mozirje or over Kranjski rak) and further towards Logarska dolina. Soon after the village Solčava we come to the intersection, where the road to Logarska dolina branches off to the left. We turn left towards Logarska dolina (toll payment) and drive along the road to the parking lot at the mountain hut Koča pod Slapom Rinka, where we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we go on a wide tourist path which starts gently ascending. After a good ten minutes of walking, we come out of the forest, where we come to a junction. We go left (right Orlovo gnezdo 3 minutes) in the direction of Dom na Okrešlju. The path ahead crosses a bridge and on the other side it starts ascending steeper. After a short ascent, the path brings us below the mountain walls, from where crossing to the top of the waterfall follows. This part is exposed to falling stones. After that, the path crosses Savinja again and then ascends upwards along the river with the help of stairs. Next we ascend on the right side (left bank) of Savinja. Soon, we come to the source of Savinja, where we again cross the water. On the other side, the path goes into a dense forest and after a short ascent, it brings us to the winter shelter on Okrešlju. We continue left and in a few steps we come to the mountain hut Dom na Okrešlju.
At the hut we go on a path in the direction of saddles Kamniško sedlo and Savinjsko sedlo. Soon, we come to the edge of a panoramic meadow, where there is a junction. We continue left in the direction of Kamniško sedlo on the path which at first moderately ascends through the forest and then over a belt of bushes. The path then entirely flattens and in a short crossing brings us to scree on which on a well-made path we ascend to the entrance into a less demanding mountain wall. Further, with the help of numerous fixed safety devices we ascend a level higher, where the steepness decreases a little, but the path is still pretty steep and exposed to falling stones. Higher, the path brings us to a steep and in snow dangerous for slipping scree, which we only cross. Next follows a short ascent on a wide and slightly exposed ledge behind which the path brings us onto ample grassy slopes of saddle Kamniško sedlo. Only a few steps ahead we come to a junction, where we continue left (right Turska gora and Brana) and on a gentle path surrounded by meadows in a few minutes descend to the mountain hut Kamniška koča.

Discussion about the trip Koča pod slapom Rinka - Kamniška koča na Kamniškem sedlu

We did this trip two years ago, just at the time when the larches were turning yellow and it was wonderful. But it must be dry, because there is a risk of slipping towards the saddle, as the caretaker at Okrešelj said, if someone slips here in the snow it's usually forever.

I'm interested if there is another path from the direction of Rinka waterfall. Up I would go by this one, down by another.

You can go past Brana and Turska gora to Turski žleb where you can descend to Okrešelj. Although better in the opposite direction. Otherwise no other direct path to Kamniško sedlo.

Did this path today. After rain and thunder, walking back towards Okrešelj is not pleasant at all.. I don't recommend in the rain!!! Extreme slipping hazard..

I'm interested in how long it takes to hike from Kamniško sedlo to Ojstrica and if the path is marked? I read that it's possible to go along the path below Planjava and through Lučka Baba and Škarje. Has anyone done it? What's the path like?

The path is nicely marked, not too demanding (if no fog). Time-wise it's like this from K. sedlo to Škarje: more than 4 hours then you have another 1 hour to the top of Ojstrica Regards but no water the whole path!!

Hi. Does anyone know the time estimate for the marked path from Okrešelj to Kam. sedlo? I'm interested because I'd like to cross from Kamniška Bistrica to Okrešelj, and I'm wondering if night will catch me if I start tomorrow after work...

I was on this tour two days ago, there is some snow at two spots, caution needed under the rock because snow is melting from below and there are large crevices. The tour is very nice, worth doing

Has anyone been on this path in the last few days? I'm interested in how it is around the ledge in the rocks, is it very wet or can you walk nicely. I plan to tackle this path a bit tomorrow.

lp, last time I didn't make it on this path - heavy rain, now on Saturday I plan to. I'm interested if the huts at Okrešelj and Kamniško sedlo are open over the weekend and if there is any snow along the path, what are the conditions for this path. Thanks

The huts are still open. No snow on the path.

The Kamniška koča na Kamniškem sedlu will be open continuously until 12.10.2014, then on nice weekends through the winter season, as the caretaker said today

Today my son and I were at the saddle. Actually we were heading to Brana, but it was windy at the saddle, and we weren't equipped enough for the cold wind. Otherwise the weather was ideal (to the saddle), the path dry. We returned around ten and crowds of people were heading towards the saddle. You need to be careful when avoiding in the wall. The path is very suitable for getting to know more demanding routes.

Nicely shown, otherwise no need to think much if there is snow there. Everyone should know that snow stays longer there.

Rades is asking about conditions on this trail, but admits he's never been there before. If that's the case, it's clear—if you haven't hiked there in dry conditions, don't even try in snow.

September is always nice for the mountains and October too. Of course you still need to monitor the weather forecast. You need to go early enough and count on the days being shorter.

Hribolazec81, September and October are two wonderful months for visiting the mountains. In July it was quite hot and surely we won't reach such temperatures in September. The day is indeed shorter, but we can still do tours up to 12 hours long. As for photography, it's generally known that the best light is in the early morning and late afternoon hours. And larches put on their wonderful autumn dress in autumn. And some peak peeking out of the mists can be a really wonderful motif.

| iUnknown6. 09. 2015 |
I was up there today and it was quite changeable. I went rather late, because in the morning it was still all cloudy. And since the temperatures were also lower, it wasn't really a problem to go later. The weather was mostly sunny, then around 12 the clouds came rushing in, which then disappeared for a while. It cooled down considerably, so short sleeves are already a bit too little. There is already snow on Planjava. Later in the afternoon it was very cloudy. If the weather forecasts hold, tomorrow will probably be the best day of the three mentioned. So I would go tomorrow.

If going to KS from Rinka, definitely take a helmet with you. Last week I experienced real stone bombardment (large and small ones) at the spot where those few fixed ropes are (half an hour before KS). They were whistling through the air like on the front line

Today on this trail to Kamniško sedlo and back. Everything without peculiarities, rocks didn't fall today either. But caution is not superfluous, so I had a helmet on my head

Hello! This weekend we plan to go through the turski žleb and over Turska gora to Brana and back to Okrešelj. I'm interested if anyone knows the snow conditions, especially on the Turska gora-Brana path. Is the path trodden? Thanks, best regards

Mandatory winter gear and experience... this path is rarely hiked in such conditions...

Maybe this helps a bit. 7. 5. turski žleb At the start of the secured section it sank up to the hip, so I stopped there.

Thanks for the information. I'm thinking of limiting the hike to just Okrešelj-Brana. There probably shouldn't be any major problems here?

Hi I'm wondering if the path is suitable for an 8-year-old....of course he has a helmet.....we probably need a via ferrata kit too. He's fit condition-wise (also trains sport climbing) just safety concerns me on the section that's narrow, overhanging with cables and pegs. We've done Savinjsko sedlo, Kocbekov dom na Korošici via Lučki Dedec and he was thrilled, so no issues from the standpoint of readiness and drive.
| Grenaleva19. 07. 2017 |
In my opinion you'll go without issues, the path is nicely set up and secured, no such narrow sections as in the picture, live it seems much easier to me. My kids enjoyed it. Via ferrata kit in my opinion not needed, there's always a crowd anyway and a bit of waiting.
| Enka19. 07. 2017 |
It's really not as narrow and exposed as it looks in pictures. To me too it seemed easier live than expected. But I didn't descend it. Of course it's more precipitous than the paths you mention. Regarding the kit everyone decides for themselves, I didn't miss it even for a moment on the ascent (and I'm quite nervous if it's exposed).
| biba19. 07. 2017 |
The path is more demanding than the ones you've done. It's more exposed and "slippery" than them and requires a sure step to avoid slipping (especially on return). I recommend a helmet. Via ferrata kit not so much, but securing the child (at least on return) isn't wrong.. Good luck!
| Jery7822. 07. 2017 |
Thanks for all the opinions and advice.....today we successfully completed this tour....the 8-year-old was thrilled! We used a self-belay kit, which really came in handy especially on the descent, although we used it also on the ascent.....mainly I was calmer because of the SVK, since my son was "secured"

A hiker who was on this trail yesterday reported two more difficult snowy spots. The first is right below the entrance to the rocky or more demanding part of the trail (hard snow, high risk of slipping), the second in one of the steep gullies a little before the saddle (exposed crossing). I suggest waiting another week for the temperature to do its job, or proper equipment, even though just for those two mentioned spots. Good luck!
| nteam12. 06. 2019 |
On the mentioned second snowfield (right before the saddle), slips have already ended tragically. Good luck!
| Megalodon9615. 06. 2019 |
Today barely survived a rockfall at the entrance to the more demanding part of the path. Anyone going on this path must absolutely wear a helmet!

On Saturday I plan to go to the saddle from Logarska past Okrešelj. I'm interested if there's any variant to return via another path. Thanks for answers and safe steps
| coffee4. 06. 2020 |
Variant towards Planjava or under it, descent to the north side through Škarje and then to the valley past Klemenčeva jama or via the old path through Grlo.
Second option via Kotliče to Turska gora and descent via gully to Okrešelj.
For both variants winter gear still needed.
| Taša117. 07. 2020 |
Coffee, can you please tell me more about this downhill path via Škarje and Klemenče jame? Difficulty, time and how marked is it?
| tomo_kugy17. 07. 2020 |
@Tjaša If you're used to high-mountain hiking, the difficulty won't be an issue. Time-wise, I'd say from Kamniško sedlo to Škarje about 2.5-3 hours (detour to Planjava en route, 15 min off path), from Škarje to Klemenče jame about an hour and another to the valley. Note you end in the valley at Dom planincev or Penzion na Razpotju, so someone needs to drive you back to top of Logarska where you left your car. Times approximate depending on fitness. Search this portal for Planjava access via K. sedlo, Ojstrica via Škarje and crossings for realistic times. Path condition unknown, says winter gear still needed above. Safe hiking.

From Dom planincev to parking under Rinka is a nice walk. No need for transport.

Yes, unless you have a full day's hike behind you, otherwise it's fine if someone drives you

From Dom planincev to the parking lot under Rinka it's a nice walk. No need for transport. It drags on quite a bit. If possible, it's definitely more pleasant to drive ...
| dprapr18. 07. 2020 |
I've never understood hikers or whatever we're called, that we can walk for hours on end, but a short valley walk at the end is a problem. Even when I hiked this ridge from the valley start to Mrzla gora a few years ago, I then happily walked those 7km back to the valley start. Similarly after the Plešivec-Srebrnjak ridge. Nice was that 5km walk back up the Trenta valley to the car. Such "holistic descents" make the trip even more noble.

In the middle of the path, where you reach the exposed section (self-belay kit is not necessary, and it would be hard to use it anyway), you spend some time under the wall. There, a helmet is mandatory. Last time there, I heard some birds and then realized that a real rock was flying above me, which nearly hit the people below me. In that case the helmet doesn't help, but some debris flew after it. I walked the rest of the path sniper-style with eyes on the wall, pulse 160, while from the top older people were returning without helmets. Be careful on this otherwise easy path.

Everything is nice but since it's full of tourists to the waterfall, the trail could be adapted for them, reinforced... those brought by bus don't have hiking footwear. It seems most no longer care about maintaining the surroundings...
| dprapr9. 07. 2023 09:49:11 |
“those who are brought by bus don't have hiking footwear” So, if I arrive in Vrata by bus, do I not need hiking boots further on? Do the paths on all sides have to be so well-maintained that I can go in sandals?
| turbo9. 07. 2023 11:33:20 |
Went last week past the waterfall up and out, you can easily reach the little bridge under it on the footpath in sneakers, flip-flops can be awkward, pity for sandals

Even if it were possible, now is really not the right moment to visit the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. How would they rescue you if something happened to you? The hut at Kamnik Saddle is closed until further notice, the path to Okrešelj is quite damaged from the downpours in the last month. If you're already thinking about mountains, look towards the Julian Alps, conditions there are more or less normal. You'd still be unnecessarily burdening the Mountain Rescue Service in case of an accident.
