Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana-Jesenice highway, take the Kranj-east exit and continue following the road towards Jezersko, but only to the Kanonir inn, where we turn left and follow the initially still asphalted road. At all intersections, head towards the signs for Storžič. When the road makes a sharp right turn, we notice signposts for Kališče and Storžič. Park on the parking lot near the signpost so as not to hinder forestry work. The road is CLOSED from 20.7. to 20.10. When the road is closed, park lower, which extends the ascent by one hour.
Route description:
At the bend, head onto the cart track to the left of the signposts. Already after a few meters on a tree we notice the marking, which tells us that we are on the right path. After a good five minutes of walking, a signpost directs us left onto the footpath. The path, which starts to ascend moderately, soon brings us to a cart track, which we merely cross. The path just a minute further on crosses the cart track again, then ascends more steeply. The path slowly turns slightly to the left and brings us to a small ridgelet, where we come right up to the cart track. For a while we ascend beside the cart track, then a small path brings us to a viewpoint where there is a bench. The path ahead brings us back onto the cart track, but this time to the point where it ends. Access via the cart track is also possible (at all junctions keep to the left directions, the start is the same). The path ahead is somewhat harder to follow since large quantities of fallen timber make ascending the marked path impossible, so it is necessary to seek passages, which are only partially trodden. Once we get past this section, the path is easier to follow again, but only briefly. The path ahead approaches a clearing located below Storžič and turns left into the fallen timber. Again we seek passages through the trees. A few meters before Praprotnikova koča we step back onto the marked path, by which we reach the hut in a few steps. The path ahead ascends steeply again, then turns right and crosses the slopes in a slight ascent to the scree deposited by the torrent. The path ahead takes us between two boulders and after a few steps of descent begins to ascend again. Soon we reach the dwarf pines, where the view opens up. The path ahead ascends below the walls of Bašeljski vrh, which we bypass along the lower side. First we cross a smaller scree, then the path brings us into the gully located amid the dwarf pines. The ascent through the gully is not demanding but requires care, especially on descent, due to loose stones on the rocky base. The path from the gully brings us to a pleasant meadow where the view opens to the south side.
At the signposts turn left towards Kališče (right Storžič). The wide path along the south side bypasses Bašeljski vrh, then descends gently along a panoramic path to Dom na Kališču.
Jekarica - Bašeljsko sedlo 1:45, Bašeljsko sedlo - Kališče 15 minutes.

Discussion about the trip Jekarica - Dom na Kališču

Brane V.-Nice short, easy hike, which is however greatly extended by the closed road. But because of the beautiful two waterfalls and the flowing water on some rocks covered in green moss along the road soon after the barrier, it's worth just walking. In this heat it feels very good.

Yesterday my daughter and 6-year-old niece and I took this path to Kališče. Luckily we had the route description with us, as the markings are really deficient in places. We didn't meet any hikers on this path. The štruklji in the hut are excellent, but prices for both drinks and food are quite high.

Is the notice that the hut will be closed for 3 months still current or is it from the past.

The road is officially closed - allowed only for users/owners of forest land, but the barrier was still open on 15.7.2017 (at the "parking lot" at the start of the described tour there were three cars). From 20.7. onwards complete closure applies.

2.5.2019 - barrier lifted, drove by car another ca. 3 km where forestry works were taking place. Then ca. 20 minutes on foot to the starting point in the 1st picture. Perhaps update the description, the path is now nicely marked and easily followable, no obstacles. 5 minutes before the hut a bluethroat crossed the path.
