Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the exit Kranj - East and follow the road further in the direction of Jezersko, but only to the inn Kanonir, where we turn left and follow initially the still asphalted road. At all crossroads, we head towards the signs for Storžič. When the road makes a sharp right turn, we notice signposts for Kališče and Storžič. We park on the parking lot near the signpost in such a way that we do not hinder forestry work. The road is CLOSED from 20.7. to 20.10. When the road is closed, we park lower, which extends the ascent by one hour.
Route description:
At the turn, we head onto the cart track to the left of the signposts. Already after a few meters, we notice the blaze on the tree, which tells us that we are on the right path. After a good five minutes of walking, the signpost directs us left onto the footpath. The path, which starts to ascend moderately, soon brings us to a cart track, which we only cross. The path just a minute further crosses the cart track again, then ascends more steeply. The path slowly turns slightly to the left and brings us to a small ridgelet, where we approach the cart track completely. For some time, we ascend alongside the cart track, then the path brings us to a viewpoint where a bench stands. The path continues to bring us back onto the cart track, but this time to the place where it ends. It is also possible to access via the cart track (at all junctions, keep to the left directions; the start is the same). The path ahead is somewhat harder to follow since large quantities of fallen trees make ascending the marked path impossible, so it is necessary to seek passages, which are only partially trodden. Once we overcome this section, the path is easier to follow again, but only briefly. The path ahead approaches a clearing located below Storžič and turns left into the fallen trees. Again, we seek passages among the trees. A few meters before Praprotnikova koča, we step back onto the marked path, along which we reach the hut in a few steps.
The path ahead ascends steeply again, then turns right and crosses the slopes in a slight ascent to the scree deposited by the torrent. The path ahead leads us between two boulders and after a few steps descends before ascending again. Soon we reach the dwarf pines, where the view opens up. The path ahead climbs below the walls of Bašeljski vrh, which we bypass along the lower side. First we cross a smaller scree field, then the path brings us into a gully located among the dwarf pines. The ascent through the gully is not demanding, but caution is required, especially on descent, due to the scree on the stony base. The path from the gully brings us to a pleasant meadow where the view opens to the south side. At the signposts at Bašeljsko sedlo, we turn left toward Kališče, but follow the path only a few meters. The signs for Bašeljski vrh then direct us left into the grassy-rocky slopes. We ascend upward, slightly to the left, to the point where the passage is blocked by dwarf pines. If we missed the correct path during the ascent, we find it to the left. A short ascent to the forepeak follows, from which we spot Bašeljski vrh. From the forepeak to the summit, we have only one minute of walking along the ridge, which is slightly slippery in snow.
Jekarica - Bašeljsko sedlo 1:45, Bašeljsko sedlo - Bašeljski vrh 20 minutes.

The trip can be extended to the following destinations: Mali Grintovec

Discussion about the trip Jekarica - Bašeljski vrh

Started from Jekarica already at 7 am today. The barrier is up. There's a no-entry sign. This year no notice when full closure, just the sign, so probably risking a fine if caught at the end of the path. Weather very suitable, not too hot, not too cold. Path as always very pleasant, without crowds typical of the path from Mač. At Bašeljsko sedlo in really one hour, then short ascent to Bašeljski vrh. Great viewpoint to Storžič and the valley. Then descent to the hut where they serve friendly as always. Nice introduction to the hiking season!

Has anyone hiked this trail recently? I'm curious about the road closure situation and where that hut is that "velkavrh" describes. I need an answer right away because I plan to go there tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

He probably meant the hut on Kališče. Tomorrow it's probably closed, so don't count on any service. I don't know anything about the closure.. but you can choose another starting point just in case. Best regards

On 28.03.2017 I walked the described path. I have one compliment and one complaint: - COMPLIMENT to PD Kranj for the very well-marked path, - COMPLAINT to PD Kranj, because the summit logbook at Bašeljski vrh is full, and otherwise already in very poor condition and it would be appropriate to replace it with a new one.

PINOKIO - how was it with the roadblock afterwards, where did you park? And what about the path to the summit, completely dry?

The road is officially closed - allowed only for users/owners of forest land, but the barrier was still open on 15.7. (at the "parking lot" at the start of the described tour there were three cars). From 20.7. onwards complete closure applies. Otherwise quite steep, excellently marked and undemanding, mostly shady trail, where we met only one hiker. We descended via Javorški preval; so Jekarica-Bašeljski preval and summit-Dom na Kališču-Bašeljski preval-Javorški preval-Jekarica.
