Access to starting point:
We leave the Gorenjska highway at the exit Hrušica and then at the crossroad we continue right towards Jesenice. We follow the road to the first roundabout where we go left towards Hrušica. The road starts ascending and at the crossroad on the top of the slope we turn left on the priority road. After approximately 200 meters of further driving we will notice the parking lot on the right side. The parking lot is marked also with the information board „Parkirišče Ferata Dobršnik“.
Route description:
From the parking lot we continue by the main road to the next crossroad where the signpost „Ferata Dobršnik“ points us right. Further, we walk through the village on an ascending road and follow the signs for the ferrata. Higher in the village, the signpost points us to the left where we then also slightly descend. At the last houses where the asphalt also ends we then continue right upwards on a cart track.
Further, we ascend through the forest parallel with the Dobršnik stream and the cart track passes into a footpath. At the crossings we choose the left paths, and we also get help from signposts and some blazes. The footpath then crosses the stream to the left side and by the stream soon brings us to the information boards where the secured climbing path Ferata Dobršnik begins. To here where there is also the first waterfall by the path we will need approximately 20 minutes.
The secured path first ascends diagonally and then runs on the left side of the gorge above the stream. After a somewhat steeper ascent by the steel cable the path crosses the stream to the right side. Further, the path runs on the right side of the gorge right above the stream, and on some spots we also get help from some brackets.
The path then brings us to less demanding terrain which is not secured. First we walk in the streambed, then the path withdraws from the stream to the right side. The path quickly again approaches the stream and brings us to the next secured part.
The path starts to ascend a little more steeply and again we get help from a few brackets. Here we have a nice view from the path towards the nearby waterfall by which we are ascending. For some time we still ascend by the stream, then we continue right where the secured path soon ends. Next follows an ascent through the forest in short hairpin turns, which brings us to a wider path where there is also a marked junction.
To the right we can descend towards the starting point, left we can continue towards Rogarjev rovt. If we continue left towards Rogarjev rovt, after a short ascent at Tončkov stolp (miniature Aljaž tower by the path) a footpath also branches off to the left by which we can view another part of the Dobršnik gorge.
The ferrata is moderately demanding. In the lower part it is graded with grade B, in the upper it is slightly harder. Since the path runs through the gorge the rock can often be wet, therefore more caution is needed. The path is closed from 31st October to 1st April.
Estimated climbing time is 1h 15min, but more experienced climbers will need substantially less time. For the descent we will need approximately 30 minutes.

Discussion about the trip Hrušica - Dobršnik waterfalls (Ferata Dobršnik)

Hello, I'm interested if there's any path/bypass to the top of the waterfalls suitable for a dog. The pathless route mentioned here also doesn't work. Thanks for the answer, Alen

From Hrušica along the marked path towards Rogarjev rov, descend into the gully along the path coming from the ferrata, but once you reach the gully you won't get far ahead, maybe some exploring further up the gully, but definitely not down along the path from Hrušica directly into the gorge you'll reach the first and second waterfall with the dog, the rest are further up where the ferrata runs. Regards

Today I climbed the gorge with my family. Regarding the difficulty rating B on the information board at the start of the climbing section, I would like to point out that there are actually several sections of difficulty C as well. The via ferrata requires quite a bit of arm strength. There could be more pegs here and there; otherwise, where there's no natural foothold, you have to rely on your shoe gripping the smooth wall, and then pull yourself up with your hands. I definitely advise against climbing if it rained the previous day! Interesting training, for which you also need to be a bit mentally prepared. You can't turn back, and there are no escape routes either. The sections near the tops of the waterfalls (there are 7) can be quite airy and exposed. Dobršnik is certainly a piece of cake for the experienced. I wrote this comment for hikers similar to my family who might be eyeing the via ferrata but don't know exactly what to expect. The difficulty personally surprised me a bit. I'd say Dobršnik is harder than, for example, the easier (B) via ferrata in Mojstrana.
