Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubelj (Tržič), and then we continue driving towards Ljubelj. Just before the gas station in Bistrica pri Tržiču we leave the main road and continue driving right in the direction of Tržič. Further, we drive through Tržič in the direction of Dolžanova soteska, and then at the end of the town we continue right in the direction of Lom pod Storžičem and Grahovše. When we get to Grahovše we drive on the road to the nearby quarry, by which there is a marked parking lot.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road, and it quickly brings us to the first crossroad, where we continue slightly left in the direction of the mountain hut Dom pod Storžičem (slightly right leads the road into the village). Only a little further we get to the second crossroad, where we continue on the lower right road (left tourist farm Rekar, Stegovnik, mountain pasture Javornik and mountain pasture Konjščica). We continue on a gently sloping macadam road which first leads over a larger pasture, then passes into the forest, where it continues along initially numerous watercourses. The road ascends relatively gently through the forest for some time, then a little after the sign (cross) brings us to the spot where a footpath branches off to the right towards Dom pod Storžičem, and we continue on the road, which gradually starts to ascend more steeply. Higher, the road turns a little to the right and from the valley passes to moderately steep slopes. A few minutes of walking follow and the road brings us to a smaller crossroad in the immediate vicinity of the mountain hut Dom pod Storžičem.
Here we continue right and in a minute of additional walking we get to the already mentioned mountain hut.

Discussion about the trip Grahovše - Dom pod Storžičem (by road)

I have a question. Two years ago I went sledding with my son on the above described route, and my son was thrilled. How is it now with this road, is it snowy or not? Is there perhaps something similar elsewhere in Slovenia? Janez&Tim

Currently sledding below Stožec is super, plenty of snow, you can even slide on your butt if you want. You can also jump on the old Ljubelj road, it's not far, there it flies like the devil himself, but watch out so you don't get hurt. Nice day, Gams KELTnasmehnasmehnasmeh

As far as I know, they also sled on the old Ljubelj road i.e. from the old border crossing and also from Tromeje above Rateče. I don't know the snow conditions.zavijanje z očmi

Excellent sledding track is from Savske Jame above Planina pod Golico. There they artificially ice the road so it goes faster and they even have a safety fence.
Helmet on this track is mandatory!

I don't know with what intention some mislead people who want to get information about a certain trail. The road Slaparska vas - Dom pod Storžičem is torn up in some places, dry, the rest is an ice rink set up on the slope, no trace of snow. Checked this afternoon!

Does anyone perhaps know if any snow has fallen below Storžič, and if there is enough for sledding, what about the hut, is it open?

Thanks N

The hut is open on weekends, snow has fallen, if enough I don't know. Best to call the hut.nasmeh

Yesterday I was sledding from Dom pod Storžičem. It was icy as hell. Lots of people.

What's the condition like? Is it already good for some sledding? nasmeh

So as not to wait too long for a reply, I went to check the condition myself... Nice sledding down nasmeh

Today the track was super, just right hard... but something bothers me, and maybe not only me, that people walk up the track and today there were quite a few, so very dangerous for descent.

With the group we were sledding here a week ago and today we're going to check again, I hope this rain hasn't washed away all the snow. zavijanje z očmi

Hello, has anyone gone to the hut in the last few days? Is the road passable?

Thanks, Juš
cofka10. 03. 2017
Hi, the road is passable to the parking lot at the bridge where the sign for the hay meadows is. Higher up it's still icy.

JusAvgustin10. 03. 2017
Thank you kindly.

With the group I visited Dom pod Storžičem for the first time, I must say they welcomed us very nicely and friendly with a carnival atmosphere welcome where we chatted amiably and laughed. They left a nice and friendly impression, we'll come back.

Excellent sledding destination, the only competition is the old Ljubelj. Up of course via the 'hiking trail' and descent via the 'sledding slope'. Very friendly hut staff.

Has any snow fallen on the sledding path now/is it icy? Last time there were huge holes due to the rush of people and it was quite unpleasant.
cofka16. 04. 2023 22:49:02
The road is clear to the hut.
